Connecting to a Nexus 7

Has anyone tried to connect a Nano, PowerFlarm, or V7 vario to a Nexus 7?

Not to a Nexus 7, but to other Android devices and it works as expected. You can use either Bluetooth or a IOIO board for that.

Is an IOIO board a "plug and play" type of hardware. Can I plug it in and configure the ports in the android device? I saw a video on youtube with a Colibri II, V7, and Dell Streak.

I'd suggest taking a look at IOIO, plus the UART extension designed by SoarTronic. (http://www.soartronic.com) There's a little DIY involved, but these solutions are well tested with various android devices.

The IOIO is plug and play in the sense that you do not need to load any special firmware for gliding purposes. The standard firmware should be used. However it will require some soldering, mounting in a box etc. The soartronic shield probably reduces the soldering work considerably
