View Full Version : TE probe?

July 25th 14, 04:19 PM
Anyone have any ideas why the TE probe is on the left tip of the horizontal stab of the just announced JS-1 EVO.

So they could add a few more potential leak points in the line?

Maybe Jet Blast? Is thrust offset to the right?

Perspective?
Having additional connections that will eventually leak is the big advantage.

Interesting. Do you have a link to the photo you have seen?

Thanks,

Sean

No tailwheel visible. Comp number goes awfully far forward on the vertical. Looks a lot like an "assembled" picture.

1)Further from the stuff that goes on at the wing root.
2)One flying surface at the tail affecting the pressure field instead of two.
3) Adding complexity for the heck of it
4) Avoiding engine wash
5) Messin' with your mind

Maybe they have a stake in LXNav or another vario manufacturer that makes equipment compatible with electronic T.E. that only requires pitot-static to work:-)

For those with Facebook access there's a good picture of the probes on the Aussie's WGC page.

Don't think that probes in that tailplane location would survive
long on a typical gliding airfield.

Agree....Well at least you will not bend it or break it when you put on or take off the tail dolly. Now, I realize the end is pointed skyward, but I sure hope that it's not at the height that it could poke someone in the eye....

Santa: And what do YOU want for Christmas, glider boy?

A: (Big breath...)
I-wanna-JS-1-EVO-18-meter-sailplane-with-the-shiny-silver-TE-probe-on-the-left-tip-of-the-horizontal-stab!!!

Santa: (Pause...) You'll poke your eye out, kid!

Note: Understanding of the above will be improved by previous experience of
Christmas in the U.S.

Because the jet version would wash out a centerline probe. No need for a switch to alternate source?
