View Full Version : Jump starting solo motor glider with automobile 12 volt starter

Could I use a car 12 volt jump cable starter, the kind that is a heavy duty rechargable battery used to start dead car batteries, to start my Ventus 2CXM if the battery runs down? Could I damage the electrics of the glider if I did so?
Thanks,
John Iacobucci

Um, you didn't purchase the "jump cable" option with the glider?
You've maybe seen me use it in "A Fine Week of Soaring"...

Sure, you can jump-start without the factory kit, but BE CAREFUL!
As long as its less than 14v or so.
I'm not sure how you'll safely connect the jumper cables though.

And, make a point of replacing that battery every yeary or two,
as it seems to degrade rapidly when called upon to deliver
starting current. The batteries are very inexpensive and it
saves a lot of aggravation.

Hope that helps!
Best Regards, Dave

PS: I'm ordering the jump-start kit with the new toy ;-)
