Am I the only one who finds Al's comments in very poor taste? Is there
anyone who encourage my participation on this list?
Al should be reminded that his use of liberty is not to squash those who
differ from his own conceited opinion. It does little to encourage anyone
who does anything different from himself.and shows readily that he has not
bothered to do any homework nor research his obviously prejudiced statement.
I ask those close to Al to remind him that the hatred he displays only shows
his complete ignorance of the potential for aerodynamic gain by Jim Marske's
planform.
It is this kind of statement that discourages those who may have found a
slightly differing path. There are times to disagree but doing it in this
manner shows a complete disregard for our efforts and is most discouraging
to those who dare to try something different.
It also shows how the gliding community has fallen over the years and
discourages anyone from being part of the gliding community. It was not that
long ago when everyone rejoiced at the diversity and was both excited and
encouaged by it. Now we have only one basic glider made in countries outside
the USA. (I do note the apparent success of the sparowhawk which at least is
one bright spark of hope.)
Where is the encouraging spirit? Has Al even considered the years of work
that have gone into the development that Jim Marske has done. Has he
bothered to realize that the Pioneer IID was from the same era as the 1-26
and has even the same basic dimensions and samee airfoil? How does he
explain the trememndous advantage the Pioneer has over the 1-26? and the
Pioneer is a wood glider!!! Has he even bothered to ask Dave Welles his
opinion of the Pioneer? Has he bothered to really investigate the Marske
Wing. Again he hasn't but continues to bully his way.
If he was a real person worthy of any merit he would publish his full name
attached to his poor taste quips.
Al, I like criticism but please take a little time and it based on good
research and genuine interest not just opinionated hatred!
Please someone put a full name to Al so I can list his comments in my
History of the Marske flying wing under the Flying wing misconceptions and
prejudice chapter, at least I have a chance to have the last chuckle.

Reasonable people will (and often do) disagree, but we have few enough
entrepreneurs and innovators in our sport. We can afford to give them a bit of
slack here at smd; particularly if they are discreet and available to share
their expertise here, rather than simply push their product and disappear until
next time.
I generally enjoy Mat's contributions.
Vaughn
I find it in poor taste that in the WA fatality thread Mat even saw a way to
promote his "stall proof" flying wing.
Mat we all know about your pioneer and its an old design that was designed
to compete with the 1-26
TELL US SOMETHING NEW.. DONT KEEP BANGING ON ABOUT THAT SAME PIONEER 2D YOU
DUSTED OFF 2 YEARS AGO!!

That is impressive. Hey, have you thought of making a flying wing
version of the PW-5 airfoil? If flying wings are as efficient as you
say, it just might perform as well as a Russia!

Flame away, alice. I'm still deciding how much to charge for the
seven Schweizer skids I sent to the gliderport last week. Whether I
let them fall through the cracks, or charge $50 each means nothing to
me, Uncle Sam gets it all anyhow. Thought about swapping for an hours
dual in the 2-33, but the more I think about it, bad idea. Oh, well,
three or four more days to decide.

Indeed, what would RAS be without:
1. a travelling snake oil/flying wing salesman.
2. a racist metal grinder/Schweizer afficianado.
3. a Minden Zero who needs to buy a new glider every 6 months to
impress his friends.
It looks like we hit the Trifecta!

Sorry, I only grind when I need extreme precision, nothing in a glider
counts there.
not racist either, just can't stand egotistical krauts. My granfather
may have been born in Bremen, but he had the good sense to get the
hell out of krautland. (He didn't allow german used in his house
either, "Ve are Americans now, Ve Vill speak English." Fast way to
get a knot on your head was to use german in his house.) Point of
pride in our family, Gramps deserted from the Kaisers guard.
But I finally got to see the grob 103SL fly two weeks ago. It's rare
that it's not in the hangar being worked on. Ground hog is the best
description. 2000 feet of runway to get a foot high?
Keep taking the pet meds Dick..

Difference is I dont sell anything.
www.gliderforum.com is free, non profit. a service to soaring and a lot
better than NNTP news.
Mat on the other hand is trying to sell flying wing kits for commercial
gain.

Definition of "racist":
1. The belief that race accounts for differences in human character or
ability and that a particular race is superior to others.
2. Discrimination or prejudice based on race.

It seems a stretch to suggest Mat is selling flying wing kits for
"commercial gain"! It looks to me, after visiting Jim Marske and Mat
Redsell at their shop, that they are promoting an idea, and any money
made is quite incidental, more like a hobby. I don't mind Mat attempts
to promote flying wings, even if they are clumsy at times.
It seems a stretch to suggest Al is "spamming" the group by announcing
his gliderforum. I usually consider spam to be UCE (usolicited
commercial email), which doesn't apply to Al.

IF I were still flying, I couldn't afford the quarter, and many, far
too many, other things. Still trying to figure out how to get paid for
the skids I made without ending up losing more to the taxman than I
bring in. Safest way is to let them fall through the cracks, but if
I'm going to work for nothing, working doesn't make any sense.

A monarch isn't a ventus, but a J3 Cub isn't a Mooney either.
To be honest, the monarch looks like an incredibly fun glider to fly.
We don't tell 1-26 or K-6 drivers to go away simply because they can't
compete with the glass boys; Oh wait a minute, Didn't Dave Stevenson
just come in third place with a K6????
Maybe a Marske can't get the xcountry range of a Ventus, but I was
thrilled beyond belief when I made my first 12 mile fligh in a hang
glider and made it back to the LZ.
If I had time, I would love to have a J3, a Monarch, a Grumman Tiger, a
Hang glider, and a K6E in addition to my LS3. Might as throw in a BMW
motorcyle while I'm at it.
I really wouldn't want to replace my LS3 with a Ventus. If I did, I
wouldn't have an excuse for doing so poorly. :-)
I am, and have always been, fascinated by the Horton Flying wing. Have
you seen the aspect ratio on their last glider? It's incredible. I am
curious as to the actual aspect ratio and L/D.
I am glad that Marske is venturing into that realm.
There is room enough in this group for all forms of soaring without a
bunch of bickering. I'm glad Mat is keeping us informed.

here with us because we are blah blah blah), Al, RAS.....the
list goes on and on!
I have been trying to work out why you are so vitriolic;
Do you fancy Al? Were you no good at gliding? Do you
pay more tax than anyone else? Does it annoy you that
no-one here listens to you?

Your sarcasm was not missed, and was expected. I expect nothing else
from the soaring people. Nor do I see anything racist about picking
up on als prejudice and throwing it back at him.
>Do you fancy Al?
I happen to prefer females of the human race.
>Were you no good at gliding?
I have no idea. Nor does it matter at all, just something else I
found that I can do, and moved on to something more productive.

>pay more tax than anyone else?
No. I have reached the income limit, the point where for every dollar
I earn, a dollar is deducted from my social security. It should not
be hard, even for you, to understand that I would be working for
nothing, which makes no sense, or doing charity work for a profit
making organization, which makes less sense. (In fairness to the owner
of the operation, he would probably bend over backwards to try to help
me in this regard, but in the interest of legality, I would rather not
take any risks. It's not worth risking a tax evasion charge for a
couple of hundred bucks, or even risking an audit. As I am seen at
the gliderport rarely, I don't know who there is my friend, or who is
my enemy.)

Not in the slightest. Normally, the only ones that have ever listened
to me,
are the people that sign the check.
If you can tell me anyone else that counts, I'd be interested in
hearing it.
