View Full Version : Cessna Muffler Shroud

I've exhausted all my sources for a Cessna muffler shroud without paying
through the nose to Cessna itself.
Cessna 182A used a muffler 0750130-12 with a shroud 07501030-13. My shroud
is pretty much toast, especially considering how it got thrashed about in
our little difficulty in Wyoming last year.
Does anybody have a direct pointer to a replacement shroud without paying
the exorbitant price that Cessna wants for a piece of tin with some flanges
riveted onto it?

Check with Dawley at
www.dawley.net
Also, I've noticed WagAero has mufflers. You may also be able
to find a local A&P that will bless a talented welder in your
area.

Jim's A&P is a hardnosed SOB that doesn't allow the slightest variation from the
most strict adherence to the local FSDO's least utterance. :-)
Funny, an older Wag-Aero catalog lists a shroud for the 182 but my later one
doesn't seem to have one....

I was thinking something similar <g>

Hi JIm,
I too just had to replace the muffler shroud on our 182P model.
Probably went through the same search criteria that you did including
the option of buiding it myself. Figured I would spend the $225
dollars either ordering it new from Cessna or in my time messing with
it. I went through Broadies Aircraft in Fort Worth Texas
(www.broadiesaircraft.com). Pretty painless online ordering system and
good confirmation via email of status. Also, on a separate ticket,
ordered a airleron rode end I had forgotten on the orginal. Both
orders arrived in five days including shipping. Being a IA, and having
a reasonable link to a commercial enterprise, you might qualify for a
dealer discount. Being private and not having that much dollar volume
I didn't pursue that path.

I have to second this one.
I just had them rebuild my stack for a PA28. I couldn't identify the
molecule they used from my old stack during the 'rebuild', but I'm sure
there was at least one in there.

The folks rebuilding the muffler and collectors is Knisley Welding, which is
reported to be the best welding outfit in this part of the world -- and an
approved shop, to boot. They were the ones that supplied Wag-Aero with this
shroud but told me that Wag just stopped buying them for some reason.
You don't want to know what Knisley gets to build what is now a "custom"
shroud.

OK, from this group I got the leads of Broadies and Dawley, both of whom
came up dry. Broadies said that it is a Cessna "made to order" part which
can take up to a year to get and Dawley said that if I find a source, they'd
sure like to hear about it as they haven't been able to find one in years.
Any more suggestions other than have Knisley make me up a custom part?

No, I hadn't. They had one in stock. $195. Hell of a deal. Thanks for
the help all of you folks.
BTW, Aerospace was the most professional of any of the sites I went to.
They have the exhaust world nailed.

Glad we could be of assistance. Sounds like this outfit might be a good
resource.
Give us a pirep after you get a few hours on the actual part.

AWI consumed Aircraft Exhaust who made up the replacement carb heat
shrouds on my Cherokee a few years back. Nobody else would touch them.
They made up "overhauled" ones for $150 each for the top and bottom.
Great deal because the Piper versions were like $600 each (yikes!).
My IA and I noticed a slipping exhaust pipe and it turns out the clamp
was missing the locating pin. This has happened before and Dawley
"overhauled" the clamp (welded on a new pin) for $30. They now say they
don't perform that operation. Piper price for a new clamp was $95
(ouch!). Also, the sealing strip for my shroud was disintegrating from
rust. Piper price was $197. AWI sold me the PMA'd clamp for $20 and a
new strip for $35.
Keep these guys on you "list".
Good Luck,
Mike
