View Full Version : Help Save An Airport

I need help. Our privately owned, public use airport is under attack by
developers. We recently were required to submit for a renewal of our
conditional use permit. We were asking for 5 years but were given only 2
years. As if that wasn't bad enought now a large developer is appealing
that decision to the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors, asking for the
immediate closure of the airport so that he can develop higher density
housing in our departure zone. Our hearing is in less than 2 weeks. Our
airport property owner is insistant that the airport remain open as a public
use airport. This is not a sell-out but a force-out.
See our history at http://www.egcitizen.com/life.shtml
Please take a minute and send an email, fax or letter to the Supervisors
listed below and tell them you currently use or will use this airport and
you support it's continued operation.

Sunset Skyranch...I'll email but it won't matter. It's doomed. The
development is creeping close and guess what, money talks, bull****
walks. We were forced out of Natomas Airport 5-6 years ago for the
exact same reasons, and Phoenix Field before that. You should
probably make plans to move to Franklin Field.

Mike,
Your best chance for assistance will be to gain the help of AOPA who are
skilled in trying to keep GA airports open.
From reading the various court cases concerning the airport, it seems that
the airport owners have not always obtained the correct permissions before
installing some facilities ?
If that is correct then you are starting from the pit lane trying to win
this race !
I will send supporting emails.
Good luck !

THose developer *******s are getting brazen!I just read in AOPA Enews
that Shappell Homes just failed to get Concord (CCR) to sell them the
airport.
Get hold of California Pilots Assn. See:
Since it is a privately-owned airport, it doesn't have a lot of standing
with FAA, unless it has accepted Gov't funds.
Any chance of the users getting together and suing the developers for
damages?

The deveolpers have been trying to take over our airport for quite a few
years.
Private airport, public use.
Don't let them build anything that conflicts with the FARS.
Keep the FAA informed.
From what I have heard, public use airports have some clout with the FAA.
Go to all the zoning meetings in the town where the developer is
attending. Remind the zoning comittee of the clearance requirements for
runways. They may not know that information or want to publically know it.
Once they build something which makes aircraft use dangerous, it's hard
to go back.
So far the home owners have kept the badguys at bay.
Good luck
