View Full Version : GEM-610 data download info needed
October 19th 05, 01:51 AM
Hi all,
I just installed a GEM-610 in my airplane and it works great.
Is there a way to download/configure the unit without the suggested HP
200LX handheld computer?
I've tried a Toshiba laptop with no luck.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
Dave

You need to make sure that the irDA port on your laptop is set to be
COM1, then the program you can download from Insight's website will work.

Yout Windows is too old for IrDA. Are you sure that
there is a suitable port in the computer (too old)?

I have a GEM and I thought I recalled seeing something about using
Kermit to grab the files. I haven't tried it yet though.

I located a driver for the laptop (WIN 95) and it has a IRDA port.
Maybe i'll try Kermit as Kyler suggested.
i'll try to set it up as com1.
Wonder if it will do basic "at" commands?
Thanks

Yep, and again, make sure the irDA port on your laptop is set to be COM1.

Haven't figured out how to reallocate comports in win95. Com 1 is
pointing to the serial port and com 3 is the irDA.
If anybody can tell me how to change the comport assignments that would
be great, if not i'll go down to Fry's and pickup a serial to IR
adapter. That should make it work.
Thanks again

This is done on your BIOS settings, before starting Windows.
