For the record, I did my first SOLO instrument flight this afternoon, and
MAN did it feel good!!
It was just like after my private ticket -- I feel so much more confident
and relaxed when I'm by myself than with my instructor (I guess I'm more
nervous when I feel my every move is being scrutinized). Come to think of
it, my first real "passenger" was my DE, and I even felt more confident with
him than with my instructor.... Anyways...
It wasn't heavy IMC, just a thin cloud layer to get out of and back into
today in Santa Monica (and haze everywhere else), but the best thing about
it was the feeling after looking up at the sky (after landing) that those
clouds (the typical marine layer here) won't hold me back anymore! That was
an awesome feeling of freedom!! That's what this ticket is all about!!
Now it's time to go practice.
