View Full Version : Used C152 Prices out of this world.

Looking through the ASO.com listings recently I have seen C-152 in 60-70,000
range. Is this a typo or has the world gone crazy. Since when is a 152 worth
more than lets say 20k?

I would say the person(s) listing those aircraft at those prices are being
unrealistic. I would say $30k range for a super-clean, just rebuilt 150/152
with some nice, basic avionics (not much room for anything fancy).

Good clean 150's can be had for $15-18K every day.

Around $30k gets you a real nice IFR 152 with modern avionics.
Maybe their wives told them to put them up for sale; so they did...

Check back in, say, a year from now.

Will a year from now make them more or less.
And will that be for a 152 with 16,000 hours or more?
I thought Toyota was going to introduce some sort of
plane that would force Cessna to bring their prices down to earth.

See if it's still on sale for that price,

It never showed up; imagine that.

I was in the market for an Champ a couple years ago, just something
extra to add to the hanger. I found the Champs that had a recent
restoration were going for mid $30Ks. Maybe the C-150 is getting to the
same age? In the next few years I'll probably start looking for a C-140
to teach my boys to fly in. I've taught primary in the Mooney before
but I think the boys would enjoy the C-140.

I started out looking at 150's. I had trained in 152's and it seemed a very
good choice. There were and still are a number of them out there at all
prices. Buying a plane turned out to be a m

My guess is that some reluctant owner promised his wife that he would
put the airplane up for sale. I know that's what *I* would do.

They're everywhere. I went to Sheridan, WY; yesterday to pick up my new
sunshields from Kennon for my Bonanza. After doing that I went to the
FBO to get a little gas. While waiting for the gas I went into their
little flight planning room where they have a billboard. There was a
150 for sale for the mid teens.

I agree, a good clean 150 with higher engine time can be had for upper
teens. Add some good avionics, a recent interior and good paint and
you're into the mid twenties. Add a recent overhaul (ie. a good
overhaul) and your upper twenties to thirty. Sure, you can find runout
150s with poor paint and bad interiors with coffee grinder radios for a
song but by the time you fix everything and upgrade you'll wish you
bought that 30 grand showplane.

That's not what I'm seeing here. Mid teens equals good airplane. Not a
430 but useable for IFR. Part of the reason around here is a 150/152 is
such a ****ty airplane unless you're very near sea level.

There are a lot of aircraft with normally aspirated engines that meet
your definition of ****ty. All I'm saying is for an aircraft that had
around a 24 or 25 year production run, you can find a wide range of
prices. If someone in the mountains wanted a good performing 150/152
they should limit their search to one with a 150HP STC in which you'd
be looking in the thirties for a decent example. Show me a later model
150 with decent paint and interior (IFR-- with a good audio panel, dual
digital navcoms, GS and Mkr lites) and a low to midtime engine for the
midteens. Good luck.
