View Full Version : (Air conditioned) OSH dorm room available

Montblack
June 26th 06, 07:40 PM
I have a room in Taylor Hall that I will $hare. Rooms are AIR CONDITIONED in
this dorm only.

UW-OSH dorms are two miles from the field. Shuttle buses, which run
frequently, pick up near to the dorm site.

I'm using one of the beds. Other bed (and possible air mattress on floor) is
available.

Sat - Sat (8 nights)

"Taylor Hall was recently renovated and now includes air conditioning,
private dressing areas in each shower, and brand new furniture in every
room. Rooms in this hall are $70 per night. For 2006, this hall is FULL and
the waiting list for Taylor Hall is now closed..."

I'll have a car.

So...you'll take ca$h from a stranger but not from us, eh? Or is it a
lodging vs. food/drink thing? :-)

You did disclose the possibility of tremendous after effects of too many
brats/beers, right? I'm thinking Wednesday evening, you're sleeping
with the windows open (and us with the tent flaps up) :-)

If I hear of anyone in need of a dorm room/taxi driver combo, I'll point
them your direction.

I'm interested Paul, still looking for empty seat to Osh. I might
consider commercial flight.

1. Fly into the Twin Cities (MSP) on Friday night, Thursday, whatever.
2. Stay with us - see the town. Oh boy.
3. Will be driving over early, early, early Saturday morning.
4. Stay in the (Air Conditioned) dorm room (Sat-Wed) 5 nights.
(Wed-Sat is taken).

5. After that, we'll find something for you - maybe even at no cost.
6. Drive back with me to Minnesota on Sunday.
7. Return home whenever - Monday. Sunday evening?

Might be longer than you want to be away, but it's an option.

Wow Paul! Sounds like an offer that I can not resist. Will give it a
couple more days then I'll see about commercial flights to the Twin
Cities. What are the dates we're talking about?

Monk & Montblack,
MSP should be cheaper than GRB or ATW, but with the airplane of minivans,
GRB or ATW are only 20 minutes from OSH. If you needed to catch a plane
back east during the week, I'm sure that Paul or I could get you transported
to either GRB or ATW one evening.

I flew airline to Chicago Midway one year and rented a car from there. It was
"not awful", I had a car to drive once at OSH. Kinda seems like cheating to
drive to a fly-in, though.

Either of those two pickup points would work - except Sunday evening or all
day Wednesday. I'm unavailable those two days.

My way, in the airplane of minivans, you get to see Wisconsin, from (west to
east) and again, from (east to west). <g>

Mapquest route.

Driving time is optimistic. Especially if you get behind something big and
slow on Hwy 21. We call it 6+ hours for 300 miles. That's pretty close -
with two, or three, ...or four quick de-fueling stops.

The buffet at the truck stop in Tomah, WI is worth pulling over for. Nice
half-way point. Some big National Tractor Pull was going on in Tomah when we
drove through last weekend.

Do you provide free "Camping gear delivery tracking"...a la
UPS/FedEx/etc. style? Heck, I'll even take the "I'm there" call while
we're basking by the pool at Jay's place :-)

I like your way Montblack, I love road trips and getting to see
different regions of the US.

Food!!! Now you're talking. I especially like to sample street food,
fast food and junk food of different regions.

How late will we be back to MSP? I've got to be back to NOVA prior to
Monday morning. If I can squeeze a flight back to NOVA into your time
frame and be back so that I can make my appointment on the morning of
the 31, I'm in.

Sunday's plan was to sit by the runway and watch planes depart. That's it -
sit, and watch. BTW, that's what the first Saturday and Sunday are for, too.
<g>

Walking around is midweek.

If you can get a Sunday MSP flight anytime AFTER 7:00pm we can leave OSH
around noon. That builds in plenty of time. (Our drive home, last Sunday,
was just over 5 hours - one wayside rest, and later, an Arby's pit stop with
a sandwich order "To go.") If your flight departs MSP earlier than 7pm, we
leave OSH earlier - simple as that.

If Saturday night or Sunday morning are your only MSP departure options - so
be it. We'll get you home.

Shoot for Sunday evening - later is ok-fine with me. *You're* the one
getting into NOVA at 3am. <g>

Get what you can and we'll work around it ...."Hello, Amtrak?"

Thursday or Friday (anytime) arrival into MSP is ok on this end - 20th or
21st. Stay here.

Air Conditioned Dorm room is from Saturday night - Wednesday night. After
that we'll find a place for you. Have you ever slept in a Tri-Motor? :-)

That's right, OSH is annual time for your Aztec. (Hope it's not the same
prop!)

Sure, no problem. We'll squeeze it in ...time wise I mean. :-)

Hey, we could swing by the Plainsville farm of Ed Gein, on the way to
Stevens Point, if we've got extra time ...to kill.

So far the props are fine... crossed fingers... and the Plainfield farm of
Ed Gein is for sale if you're interested. I could give you the whole tour
but you wouldn't be impressed, nothing to see really.

WHAT??? Don't toy with me man! You finally have a cell phone??? The
two people on the face of the planet (other one is related to me,
building an airplane, rides along to/from OSH) have bought cell phones?
I see...last year it was the camera with the BIG screen (and PMC 1.0).
This year, it's a cell phone and PMC 2.0. Careful there my friend or
some day you'll actually *fly* into OSH (in a real plane vs. the
airplane of minivans thing) :-)

So...um...sure, the "...blah blah..drinking a slurpee...blah blah..."
call works great. I'm likely to be sitting poolside at the Alexis Park
Inn (hoping the kids are not splashing the cell phone, handheld
transceiver, etc.).

It's July 1st today. You 'll get in to MSP (no later than) Friday, the 21st.

Do airlines still have a 21 day cut-off for discounted ticket purchasing?

Was it:
The possible Ed Gein farm tour by Jim B?
The probable (post) brats and beer party ...party, back at the dorm?
That we're hauling over, and setting up, our EAA Chapter's big canopy in
Camp Scholler, Saturday morning? (Forgot to mention that one? Oops.)
A fear of AIDS!! (Aviation Induced Divorce Syndrome) <g>
Not wanting to listen all week to: "I put the sign up on that building..."

No whys are necessary, because YOU WILL come to OSH another year!!

Thanks for giving me the time needed to find someone else to share my AIR
CONDITIONED dorm room ...Sat night (22nd) - Wed night (26th)

Stay out of trouble!

In the days before the net, I learned all the words by listening to the
record, over and over and over and....
That was 30+ years ago, and I still remember them!

Google
