View Full Version : MSNBC Sucks !

I have to vent..

Was anybody else trying to watch the coverage of the d-day ceremonies ?

MSNBC is supposedly covering the d day ceremonies in France. The focus
should be on the event and the men and woman who fought then not the
reporters or the tv program....

The reporters will not shut up and they just cut away from the program were
old warbirds ( c-47, Spitfires, etc..) were flying over the beaches to go to
bulls**t programming they can show later.

If you feel the way I do call msnbc at (201) 583-5000 and tell them what you
think..

Sorry for taking the bandwidth..

BBC coverage was superb

I couldn't agree more. I got so fed up, I finally shut the damn TV off.
Interestingly enough, for all the hype the networks and cable news stations
have made about D-Day, the only station covering the live broadcast was
MSNBC (at least in my area) and the talking heads there wouldn't shutup for
more than a few minutes. A few were covering the death of Reagan, but the
rest were regular programing. I think it's disgraceful.
I will say one thing. No matter what your feelings about France might
be, that was one class show they put on.

It has taken you this long to determine the quality of MSNBC or just NBC
for that matter? You are a slow learner...

The French also selected 99 American veterans as representatives of
American sacrifice, and awarded them Medals of the Legion of Honor.

Well, if any news organization was going to cover it, I thought Fox would be
the one, but even they didn't cover it.

It is the same network mindset that has made most sports unwatchable,
especially events like the Olympics. You never get to see the event itself;
just advertisements, promises to show the event, and commentary on the
event.

Well, 14 veterans, actually, and each was from a different nation. The
American chosen was Charles Hostler, by all accounts a man who richly
deserved the honor. He was an OSS agent who went in ahead of the landings to
force German spies to give false reports of Allied troop movements. It would
be interesting to hear the whole story on that.

That's because the BBC is NOT a commercial network.

Commercial networks are in business to make a profit by selling
advertising time. Serving the audience is not their purpose.

Read Nicholas Johnson's _How to Talk Back to Your TV Set_.

And without competition, the rest of their programming is brain-dead.

Someone (Consumer Reports?) should provide a reference of how the
different networks stack up as to number of minutes of programming vs
number of minutes of advertising per hour.

Sad. I thought the breaking-news broadcast was interesting. They treated
D-Day as if it was happening right now and reported "live", with embedded
journalists on the phone, expert former Generals who mispronounced names
"RomMELL", just as they have been doing with the Iraq war. Was very
fascinating. Too bad they missed the warbirds. Doesn't everybody?

Some of the best programs on U.S. TV were copied from the BBC.

Well I just pointed out the warbirds to keep it in context with these
forums.

But what really got me mad was that the time they cut away was when they
were doing the multimedia number in front of the big screens it was a time
line count up of the years showing the war and the occupation of Europe when
they got to 1941 (not sure of the exact year they cut away) or so they cut
away from the broadcast completely ignoring the years of d-day and the
liberation of Europe. In other words they skipped the whole point of the
ceremony. "F" the people at Msnbc who were in charge of that show..

Ok ITV ( the Uk commercial network) coverage was equally as good then only
the presenters were different

CJ, many don't comprehend the difference between "news" and "editorials".

Not always...but the editorializing/news overlap (from the main stream) is
pretty much gone and they are now one in the same.

Fortunately, the mainstream media is dying...albeit, not fast enough.

Hard to, since there's very little unbiased news shown anymore by any
network or printed by any magazine. It's mostly editorials. People
are beginning to assume that is how reporting should be done, and we
the viewing/reading consumer are supposed to find the outlet that
feeds us the news slanted in the direction we want to hear it.
There's little--if any--other options available.

Yeah...then all you'll have are credible news sources like Democracy Now and
moveon.org.

Heh.
