View Full Version : GNS430 Restore Defaults?

My new airplane has dual GNS430s, and I would like to start out with a clean
slate on them.

Is there a way to reset the entire unit to factory defaults, clearing all
flight plans and user waypoints at the same time?

I'd be careful. There are settings in there of communicating with you GPS,
Fuel Flow, and transponder.

First of all, listen to what Karl said in the previous post. Mucking around in this fashion
may not be what you want to do. But to answer the question...

If I remember correctly, Press and hold the 'clear' button while turning the unit on.

Pressing and holding 'enter' button while powering on gets you to the hardware setup pages that
allows you to change all sorts things that Garmin, your avionics shop and your wallet wished
you didn't touch.

Well, the unit is the GPS. Maybe you mean the other GPS. But the other
interfaces would be of concern, I didn't think about them. What I would
like is to just reset the user-settable things not on the maintenance pages.

If it is all or nothing, then I will do it the long way.

Thanks,

Stan

When we put a 430 stack in one of our club planes I talked to Garmin about this.

1) There is no way to reset only the user screen-type options.

2) There is a way to reset the entire box at power up (probably the method
suggested in another post), but this also resets a bunch of GPS position
information that takes about 15 minutes to rebuild the next time the box is
turned on. (I may not have the time exactly right, but it was unacceptably long
for our purposes. It may be o.k. for your needs though.)

3) The Garmin support guy that I was communicating with (a year ago) put a
suggestion into the software developers' queue that they come up with a simple
user-interface-defaults-reset in some future version of the software. He agreed
that it would be a very good safety thing for any airplane flown by more than
one pilot.

I got all this by emailing Garmin support. I'd suggest you try them rather than
relying solely on newsgroup inputs.

Isn't there a "restore defaults" option on one of the pages? I don't
have my manual handy, but IIRC it seems like there is one on one of the
pages.

Yes, most pages have restore defaults, but it applies only to the local
parameters. Apparently there is no means to just reset user parameters
without also messing up the installation and configuration options.
