View Full Version : Plane crashed in DC ADIZ?

AVweb is reporting that a plane crashed in the DC ADIZ after ATC told
him that he had violated the ADIZ and ordered him to land at Tipton.
According to ATC tapes he asked for an in-flight IFR clearance, was
told he had violated the ADIZ and that he must land at Tipton, then he
crashed.

It will be interesting to see the accident report on this one, although
it might be hard to tell if he lost control of the plane because of
violating the ADIZ. I don't know if anyone would say if he was shot
down.

Hopefully he crashed into the TRACON cab... Would seem fitting...

This has been extensively discussed on the Cherokee Pilots
Association's "Cherokee Chat". You can hear the ATC exchange with
N9130N at the the liveatc.net archive:

http://www.liveatc.net/archive.php

Open the archive file for KBWI OCT 19 1930Z - it's about 12 minutes
into the mp3 file.

I don't see any evidence that he crashed. Is there a news report
somewhere or something?

I suppose AVweb is a news report. As I said, they were the ones
reporting it.

There's no such thing as a Tracon cab here. Potomac
approach is twenty miles from the nearest control tower.

You're too late - the cover-up is already under way!
They have already erased any trace of the reports and reporters have been
gagged - now NSA is in the process of liquidating his family and everyone
he knew so no one can leak the fact they shot him down... ;-)

I don't get it. That's a non-aviation publication, reporting on an aviation
event, and not only was it reasonably factual and noninflammatory, it even
managed to get in AOPA's position with respect to the ADIZ.

I didn't realize such a thing could be possible. :)

Yes, that is surprising. Also surprising is the lack of wider press
coverage. I suppose I'd expect something like the coverage of the plane
that just went down in NYC, considering the significance of the DC ADIZ.

One would at least expect CNN or FOX to have some wild-eyed reporter
asking, "What if it had a nuclear weapon on board?"

The answer is obvious - we'd have a show called Jericho on TV....
