I just read about the GNS530W Pilot Guide. In page 3, it says:

NOTE: The GNS 500W-series units use a different database
than in the legacy units. The databases are incompatible
between units. The GNS 500W-series units must use a
WAAS enabled database.

Can anyone who has brought/upgraded to GNS 530W or 430W tell us

1. how much does it cost for the database annual subscription?

2. If we have existing GNS430/GNS530 GPS annual plan, can it be
upgrade to WAAS database format for the remaining cycles? Do we
need to pay additional ?

Thanks.

A single subscription costs around $530, according to Jepp. You need the
Skybound USB data writer for around $80.00 as well, since the older PCM
Skybound II will not work for the new, larger capacity cards.

They will pro rate an existing subscription toward the newer W version.

It looks like some of the other features as well should really add a lot of
capability to the box.

Is it also assumed that all the 430W boxes will have been updated for
terrain too or is there a matrix of 430 versions now?

The terrain comes from Garmin, a separate update for the second card.
Jeppesen provides only the flight data.

All of the W series will have terrain incorporated on the second slot
database card.

Sure, but that doesn't answer the question if there are any 430W's out
there that have not received the required firmware update to accept
terrain.

I was told by J.A. that the terrain is a $500 option on the
conversion, $250 on a new box.

Paul,

Garmin's own documents say terrain is included in the 1500 $ WAAS
upgrade.
