I would think the jet engine would be very close to "flaming out", as it appears to be
right in the low pressure area behind the larger craft.

Looks like they are moving relatively slowly. His slats are out. The
ramp guy or crew chief is guiding him left or right visually. I still
think that if this is for real and not photo-shopped, then they are
engaging in some very risky flying. Having said that, notice that their
altitude is very high and they are most likely very stable and without
attitude perturbations. Having said all of that I will say again that
this is risky business. I've seen some very close approaches to a C130
ramp but this one takes the prize.
Cheers,
Dave

Thanks for all the input. I snatched these off a private newsgroup (techies), and I
wanted the opinions of our "areo forensic" experts here.
I thought it was real... couldn't see any evidence of photshopping, and... the fact that
it was a "series" seemed like an unlikely candidate for faking.
Damned straight it looks dangerous! Wouldn't catch me that near those intakes!
Hope these guys CO doesn't visit the aviation newsgroups...
Thanks all...

A tele-lens was used - the aircraft is at least 30 feet away, a bit closer
perhaps than when refuelling from a C-135 (and definately higher), but not
much.

Do not fear, that close to the C130 would cause the engines to stall...

If its Photo-Shopped, it is arn good fake. At first I thought what the heck
are they doing. There appears to be a movie camera mounted in front and to
the side of the "marshaller."
There has been a couple references to C-130's. This is not a C-130, the
ramp is W A Y too narrow maybe six feet wide and too short. Any Chinook
experts out there?

Exactly my point in the initial post. But, I agree that a 'tele' might have been used to
add a bit of drama to it, and make things look closer than they are.

Exactly. What you see in these pictures is a typical illusion of
"closeness" produced by a long-focal-length lens. In reality the planes
are not that close to each other.
Remember not so long ago there was a lot of buzz in mass-media when some
kid took a picture of two passenger planes "almost colliding" in the
sky? Was it near some US airport? Don't remenber... But anyway, that was
the same kind of illusion.
