Damn. I thought I'd be good for a couple of years on not spending the
$1,700+ on the Garmin 430 WAAS upgrade. Now the airport mgmt at my homebase
(KFRG) says that we're on the fast-track to get not one but two LPV
approaches with one being to a runway with no current approaches. Should be
getting it by early-mid '08 but we'll see. Bittersweet nonetheless.

Curiously, it does not show up on the FAA's IAP Status wesite
(http://avn.faa.gov/acifp.asp). Anyone ever track the progress of a
procedure via this site? Is the LPV in question really not close to becoming
a reality unless it shows up on this site?

Understand completely. I have decided to hold off upgrading for another year
or so, given this new (to me) nonsense about GPS distance from the center of
the six-pack and annunciator requirements, as well as the ongoing
supply/demand ratio.

Of course, my decision at this point is easier given that I primarily fly
between ILS-equipped airports. In your case, I certainly see the
temptation...

I hear that the annunciator requirement will add around $400-$500 to the
costs when all is said and done. Also, all the Cirrus-Avidyne glass
customers are SOL until they get a software upgrade to the PFD. The older,
steam gauge-equipped ones automatically have the annunciator requirement.

My Warrior is still autopilot-challenged so in many ways, it makes sense to
invest in that before the WAAS but we'll see.

Man, I just got my 2006 tax refund and I'm already ear-marking my 2007
refund.

It will have lnav minimums that you can use. But I've heard that
Garmin is going to raise the price of the upgrade after OSH.
