View Full Version : Withering heat...

Whew! Okay, you guys in the Southwest don't need to share
EVERYTHING.
It was 94 degree here at 11 AM, with enough humidity to curl my ever-
diminishing hair. Even though it's a beautiful day here, Unicom is
dead -- ain't nobody flying till the sun gets lower...
On the flip side, our outdoor pool here at the inn -- normally so
useless -- is absolutely PACKED.
It's supposed to be even hotter tomorrow -- just in time for our local
R/C flying club's annual airshow. (And their airfield is located
right next to the county dump -- whoo-whee, ain't THAT gonna smell
good? :-)

Thank Goodness! For a second there I thought you had renamed the hotel
to :"Wuthering Heights"

Tell me about it. Yesterday I had to do 2 flights in a C-152 with a
leaking heater when the nearest METAR was reading 41 C. And it was at
dusk.
For you metrically impaired, 41 C is almost 106 F. The worst is the
flight school I work at makes everyone fly wearing uniforms. Long
black pants, white shirt, and black tie. The only way to do it without
passing out of heat stroke is to climb up to 5000 feet where its only
in the upper 80s, and open both windows. Its noisy and you're still
sweating, but it's all you can do.

I thought you hung around the pool, drinking Chivas? <G>
111F here today... and about 4% humidity..
we'll send the heater.. the Gulf of Mex is supplying the moisture.

Heh. :)
Thursday, while I was out at KRIU I pulled up the METAR for
Vegas:
KLAS 052256Z 08009KT 10SM FEW110 SCT250 47/M11 A2975 RMK AO2 SLP037
T04671106
And they only *tied* the existing record.

You mean it's NOT Wuthering Heights? I'll have to check my Bronte

Heh...you're just getting what we've had out here the past couple of
days. Heck, it didn't even break 100 here today. And here I thought we
were in for 6 days of 100+ temperatures. Not that I'm complaining mind you.
Just be sure to get the high temp/high humidity thing over with now Jay,
so that the 20th won't impact us dry Left Coasters too much :-)

We flew at High Noon today, with the temp at 95 degrees. It actually
wasn't too bad, and I just kept reminding myself of all those bitterly
cold flights we made last winter....
Later I actually took a nap in the hangar, with the thermometer well
over 95. I was sitting in a mesh chair with TWO fans blowing on me
from behind, and that white noise combined with a cold beer to induce
a nice, 45 minute nap.
