Plane lands safely;

no one injured --

MASCOUTAH -- An Air National Guard plane made an emergency landing
Saturday night at MidAmerica St. Louis Airport after a warning light
in the cockpit indicated an engine might be on fire.

No one was injured when the KC-135 refueling plane from the Air
National Guard's 126th Air Refueling Wing at Scott Air Force Base
landed safely about 8:40 p.m.

The St. Clair County 911 dispatch center directed Dupo, Lebanon,
Mascoutah, New Athens and Freeburg to send emergency crews to the
airport before the landing.

The emergency crews took up stations at points circling the airport
runway, where they waited for the plane to land.

"We went out there and stood by, and we were released," said Jim
Cooper, a Mascoutah firefighter .

A fire warning light came on in the plane during the flight, said
Scott Air Force Base public affairs specialist Christine Spargur, and
the crew prepared for an emergency landing.

The plane, which did not sustain any damage, taxied from MidAmerica...
