Boeing built a single example of an upgraded F-4 phantom. It
had the PW1120 turbojet derived from the F-100 engine on
the F-15/F-16, a APG-65 radar, a MIL-STD databus, a conformal
fuel tank holding an extra 1,110 gallons, and some other improvements.

The Israelis had a similar upgrade called the Kurnass 2000.

In the end Boeing cancelled it for fear it would compete too well against
it's F-15/F-16s.

Any guess how well this plane would have done in the real world?

Any guess what a pair of engines and an APG-65 might cost per plane?
