Glue and nails

I'm in the process of rebuilding a wooden aileron spar. The process
involves gluing and nailing 2"x3"x1/16" reinforcing patches to the
spar. I plan on applied glue and clamped the patches in place; when
dry, putting in the nails. What are the nails doing for me and is
hammering in nails after the glue has dried likely to effect the
gluing? - Mike

If you are gong to nail them, why nail afterwards? The stresses from
nailing may cause some local cracking of the dried glue line...
I would glue coat the gussets and the part, clamp them together in
alignment and nail them right then...
Agree with dipping the nails...
