View Full Version : further thoughts about women suicide bombers

Cub Driver
January 5th 04, 11:46 AM
On an earlier thread, some despicable mysogynist wondered whether a
female suicide bomber got the 72 virgins issued to martyrs in heaven,
which led some other lowlife to speculate that instead she might be
multiplied into the 72 virgins.

Well, further to those thoughts, here's a note from this morning's
Aero-News Propwash email letter. It should settle the question of
whether the bomber herself was virgo intacta, for those who worry
about such things:

************************************************** ******

"Smuggling a bomb on to
a plane by this method is one of our worst nightmares. If you do
not have specific information about the suspect, it would be
impossible to carry out an intimate body search of every female
passenger."

That's the word from a senior official at Scotland Yard. The
British Daily Mirror quotes that official as saying the al Qaeda
wanted to put a female suicide bomber on British Airways Flight
BA223.

The source told the Mirror that the woman planned to evade close
inspection by hiding eight to 12 ounces of plastic explosive in her
vagina.

If only they would turn their energy into improving their lives rather
than killing anyone that disagrees with them they wouldn't still be
perfecting the camel bomb, or something that may smell like a camel,
while others land on Mars and sample comets.

And how is this any different from a male terrorist smuggling a
similar amt of explosives in his anus? Or a group of male terrorists
carrying each a hidden component up the rectum that adds up to one
nasty device?
Same situation...

Rob

p.s. In fact, if they wanted to go to extremes they could perform
surgery on a person and implant the explosives. Another terrorist
could trigger the device from the ground during t/o and landing. The
CIA and Israel have used this method with animals to kill terrorists.

I am the "despicable mysogynist" who asked the question. The question is valid
and still stands. One of the rewards frequently cited for martyrs is the 72
virgins. I never said the virgins the female martyrs would get were also
female.

If you had a question about what I meant you should have asked instead of
making such a comment about me. It's spelled misogynist.

Actually, it is a valid question if it meets two criteria. 1. That is was
meant as a serious inquiry, and 2, considering it was a serious inquiry,
that it addresses the perfectly logical and pertinent question that deals
with the 72 virgins as those virgins relate to the female gender as that in
turn relates to what is stated in the Koran as reward for martyrdom.
I too, would like to know if the 72 virgins are only offered to male
martyrs, and if so, how that relates in turn to a female suicide bomber
offering herself up to Allah as a martyr. It's interesting if this turns out
to be in complete conflict with the rewards being offered to male "martyrs".
If there's a caveat in the Koran that denies these women equal rewards in
heaven that are offered by religious proclomication to their male
counterparts, I for one would be quite interested in how the Mullahs are
selling this to the women!
I believe it's pertinent, and if a serious question , deserves a better
answer than that offered by Ford.

Indeed it is a pertinent question, however I think you are seeking far
too much logic in irrational religious fanaticism. An even more
puzzling question, to me at least, is how often these movements are
subtly driven by women. Why would they want to so enthusiastically
support something which is basically depriving them of so much?

Actually, this is one of those things that have been nagging at me for
a bit. Gender details aside, what good is an eternity in the company
of 72 virgins? I mean, think about it, if you refrain from the implied
x-rated activities, you're basically surrounded for all eternity by 72
members of the opposite sex, all but guaranteed to engage in
continuous "girly talk" (don't know a word for the male equivalent,
but it must be just as bad if you're a woman), and all you can do
watch and be bored and tempted at the same time. Not much of a reward,
if you ask me. On the other hand, if the x-rated activities do occur,
even 72 of them aren't going to last very long as virgins, given that
you've got all of eternity to work with.
Am I the only one who can't make sense of this?

*Seventy-two* virgins??!!!

For some reason, I was thinking it was seven, like in one for each day of
the week. But that keeps you in virgins for only a week, while 72 provides
a 10 week, 2 day supply.

But you're dead, so we're talking eternity here. Is there much difference
between one week and 10 weeks when you're stuck somewhere for eternity?
Wouldn't you have to put some pretty severe rationing on virgin use?

Geez so many questions!

I'm gonna have to rethink this suicide bombing stuff all over again!

My sentiments exactly Rob!

I lived in Cameroon for a time, and I was told (on very good authority)
that the best number of wives to have was three.

If you have one wife, you get nagged by her. If you have two, you get
two women nagging you.

But if you have three, there will always be one that will take your
side of a disagreement, and the women will end up arguing among themselves,
leaving you, the husband, in peace.

Now this may hold true for 72 virgins as well, but I would think by then,
the raucousness of disagreement would become too terrible to bear.

Yes, Cameroon had a very male dominated society!

That's an interesting observation Dan; I guess it's supposed to be your
subtle way of letting us know that what you said was tongue in cheek and
that we, having lost our sense of humor, missed your otherwise obvious
attempt at playing the devil's advocate?
Well, FWIW old buddy, there are issues I'll laugh about, and issues I'll let
pass without using them to fuel my sense of humor; or anyone else's for that
matter; and using an issue like this, is one I wouldn't use. Obviously, we
disagree on our definition of what's "laughable".
Aside from this, and after reading your initial post again word for word
from top to bottom and finding absolutely nothing there that indicates in
any way whatsoever that the post is anything but serious, might I suggest
that in the future, if subtle humor or sarcasm is your intent, and since
you're a professional writer :-), perhaps you could bend a bit for us less
intelligent and less intellectual types out here and try posting with at
least SOME indication that what you are posting is tongue in cheek?
Finally, since my sense of humor doesn't include discussing people blowing
themselves up, I'll go somewhere else and find another thread where I might
put my sense of humor to better use.
Hey, as you like to say,

Well, as much as I hate to break in to a good joke with facts,
there is some claim that it kind'f does amount to a typo.
The claim is that the reward is actually 72 "seeds of profound ideas",
the ancient word for this concept and "virgins" being written the same.
The modern written language having added a couple of little marks
to distinguish the two with the wrong "new version" having been kept.

Well you're no fun John!

Actually, it seems a lot of explanation of events in the Bible can
be fully or partially explained by mis-translations, so it shouldn't
be too surprising that this might hold true for the Koran as well.

I wouldn't worry too much about it -

Die Syro-Aramaische Lesart des Koran, available only in German, came out
just over a year ago, but has already had an enthusiastic reception,
particularly among those scholars with a knowledge of several Semitic
languages at Princeton, Yale, Berlin, Potsdam, Erlangen, Aix-en-Provence,
and the Oriental Institute in Beirut.
Luxenberg tries to show that many obscurities of the Koran disappear if we
read certain words as being Syriac and not Arabic. We cannot go into the
technical details of his methodology but it allows Luxenberg, to the
probable horror of all Muslim males dreaming of sexual bliss in the Muslim
hereafter, to conjure away the wide-eyed houris promised to the faithful in
suras XLIV.54; LII.20, LV.72, and LVI.22. Luxenberg 's new analysis, leaning
on the Hymns of Ephrem the Syrian, yields "white raisins" of "crystal
clarity" rather than doe-eyed, and ever willing virgins - the houris.
Luxenberg claims that the context makes it clear that it is food and drink
that is being offerred, and not unsullied maidens or houris.

In Syriac, the word hur is a feminine plural adjective meaning white, with
the word "raisin" understood implicitly. Similarly, the immortal, pearl-like
ephebes or youths of suras such as LXXVI.19 are really a misreading of a
Syriac expression meaning chilled raisins (or drinks) that the just will
have the pleasure of tasting in contrast to the boiling drinks promised the
unfaithful and damned.

As Luxenberg's work has only recently been published we must await its
scholarly assessment before we can pass any judgements. But if his analysis
is correct then suicide bombers, or rather prospective martyrs, would do
well to abandon their culture of death, and instead concentrate on getting
laid 72 times in this world, unless of course they would really prefer
chilled or white raisins, according to their taste, in the next.
