[u.m.d members, please retain the cross-post to r.a.m since my server
doesn't have your NG; r.a.m members, if you have the DVD and it works
fine then please say so, identifying your equipment]
I have a problem with my DVD player and one particular disc which yields
only (or most readily, at least) to use of the GOTO button.
The player is a CyberHome CH-DVD 400, bought a while back from WHS.
The disc is Channel 4's "The Dambusters", about some current Royal Air
Force personnel trying to simulate the 1943 raid on the Ruhr dams. (As
Mike Powell commented in r.a.m's recent "Lancaster Sound Recording"
thread, the two-part series was shown again over Christmas.)
The problem is that things don't work from the menus. On start-up, the
main menu is displayed (none of the options is highlighted), the music
plays in an indefinite loop, and the machine doesn't respond to the
usual cursor controls etc. Other menus are similarly (though silently)
useless.
If I use the GOTO button then I can play the disc, but it's an inelegant
solution.
Any ideas?
FWIW, I have only about half a dozen DVDs and this is the first time
I've had such a problem. That said, the machine doesn't always take
kindly to repeated single-stepping with another disc (reverting to
simple playing seems to overcome this).
TIA, and Happy New Year.
