View Full Version : The gun thing.

Finally got to talk to my gun totin buddy. He assures me that the video
posted is absolutely correct. I'd seen the holsters OK, but wasn't too sure
if the deficiencies the poster pointed out were for real or somethig he
concocted. Apparently, it's even easier to **** up holstering the weapon
than the video made out. Yipes! I don't really see the point of the whole
locked holster thing myself.
Also, it is standard to have one in the chamber, which I think is also a
mistake, but there ya are. That's the way they're doing it. he just got
back from recurrent training, which is fairly substaintial, but
classified...

Thanks for the update. The locked holster idea really seems nutty to me as
well; and assuming, that the rest of the video is accurate, appears to
dissarm the crew at some of the wrong times.

Well, might not be as bad as all that. The instruction the guys that carry
get is pretty good and the stuff the rest of us get nowadays is also pretty
comprehensive these days. The thing about carrying is that that it's like
anything else humans do, if there is a mistake to be made, it will be made.
If it can happen, it will, if it can't, it might.

If you like, but I don't really want to get into it with them, though. For
one thing, much of what we're taught these days is classified and I
wouldn't really be able to get into the pros and cons without puling my
punches and that would kill me!

Same thing in our language.

Yeah, I don't get it, really. It's the compromise reached in order to be
able to make it happen.

With bizarre things like this I often wonder what role the litigation
experts play in the policy that is established.

There's idiotic security measures where I work; in some cases
employees are not informed of complaints against them because "it
might upset the employee".

WTF?

Anyway, I really do wonder what role lawyers played in the
establishement of the sec policy for pilots carrying in the cockpit. I
also wonder if they load "safety" rounds.

Well, i'm not going to answer the latter, but to the former I don't
think it was so much a legal thing as finding the best way to make sure
the gun didn't end up the owner's own nose. I'm not saying that they
succeeded there, but it's only one facet of the entire defence strategy
they've come up with since the 9-11 hijackings.

Oh i don't care if you identify me. I just don't reckon that the whole
thing is all that good an idea and the chances of convincing a gun nut
of that are near zip. I just don't feel like banging my head against a
wall trying to explain why I don't think it's a good idea.
