On 23rd of february 1990 Northrop filed patent D332,080 claiming the
"ornamental design of an aircraft". It was the YF-23. In 2005 the patent
rights will expire. Looking at how poorly is behaving the winning contender
of the ATF competition, I suggest somebody else takes over this original
design to make the real next generation fighter.

There's a bit of a difference between the "ornamental design" and the actual
knowledge needed to make a flying airplane.

Besides, there's no one interested in funding a new multi-billion dollar
aircraft development program from the ground up.
