There's a report that Osama Bin Laden may have been found. See:

http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/common/story_page/0,5744,8754564%255E401,00.html

The report mentions that helicopters (Military Aviation content!)
based
in Afganistan may be used to go after him.

Why don't we invite CNN to all Ops planning and orders groups, or
alternatively put all enemy units on a distribution list for all
correspondence etc ?
(or do some clowns refuse to believe that "others" read the Western Meeja?

Because CNN's speculation isn't any more accurate than anybody else's.
The story may even be a deliberate fabrication to throw Osama off the trail
(pardon the pun)

Personally, I can't understand how you can keep an eye on someone with a
satellite - bald spots are about as generic as bathtowels. For all we
know, a special forces platoon might be staking out Osama's favourite
donkey, seize that and you'll force him out in the open.

Works as well as any other strategy ...

Cheers

Osama is tall and thin...as in about 6' 3" or 4" IIRC. That CAN be picked up by
satellite....or by whatever UAV's are tooling around in the area now. That is,
assuming this rumor has anything to do with reality.

Rumors are a dime a dozen in these types of things, and how some news media has
the inside scoop into what the SOF's are doing is a mystery to me. Operational
security would be at it highest levels for something of this nature....unless,
maybe, they are completely convinced there is no escape for Osama.....but they
thought they had him pinned at Tora Bora too and wouldn't make the same mistake
of raising hopes about his capture.

I won't believe stuff like this until I see video of Osama in plastic handcuffs
surrounded by guys wearing US uniforms......although, Osama has sworn not to be
taken alive and is probably surrounded by a truly hard core bunch of
dead-enders that will go out shooting.

Yeah, he'll go down fighting like Saddam did - "Don't shoot! I want my lawyer!

Saddam is not reputed to be a religiously motivated zealot.....Osama is and he
thinks he's headed directly to paradise for his dying in the glorious jihad
ordered by Allah against the infidels. You just aren't going to be able to
reason with someone like that. It's sorta like that David Koresh thing down in
Waco, TX where everybody died in that big fire. Nuts do that kind of stuff.

I bet that Osama is not taken alive, but it would be funny as hell if he was
because it sure would make all his underling wanna-be suicide bombers look like
a bunch of deluded brain washed stooges. The "GREAT OSAMA" gets his chance to
become a martyr, and chickens out.

People like ObL do not tend to commit suicide. Although they do
encourage their people to do so.

they would be willing, if it received a budget cut to take a pay cut?

I agree with you. OBL probably won't be caught alive, but I
think it would be a real coup for the anti-terror cause if he
were.

I wouldn't be disappointed if he were allowed to "commit
suicide" in his jail cell by hanging from his head wrap a
few months after capture though.

As long as his remains are identifiable on TV (distasteful as it would
be), then I'm happy for him to never see a courtroom as well.

Ideally, he's taken alive without a fight (so he's a coward), tried,
convicted, and then commits suicide (so he's not even the great holy
warrior who takes some infidels with him).

Exactly, but anyway, which would be the greatest martyr show as far as he's
concerned, him dying in a gun battle with sf, or being arrested by the great
Satan, taken to the unclean heathen lands and executed to the cheers of a
quarter-billion enemies of Allah?
