Nixon didn't, Carter did.

....except that's false.

Staff Sgt. Brooks Johnson, son of U.S. Sen. Tim Johnson of South Dakota,
is in Iraq right now.

You were saying? Or, rather, hoping, since you presented as (incorrect)
fact something that you could have looked up in about a minute?

I agree completely with Jarg. Here's hoping the Canadians send these two
cowards back to face the music (court-martial and being sent to Leavenworth).

There won't be a draft in my case:I'm going into the U.S. Navy in 4 or so
months, and I get to go to officer school, then advanced training, then off
to the Fleet. At least I'll be in uniform. And where will you be-still sitting
in front of a computer whining about the eradication of the Saddam regime
or the hunt for Al-queda? I would imagine so. And listen to this: the DOD
civilian leadership doesn't want a draft; nor do the JCS or other senior
Flag officers. They want people in the service WHO WANT TO BE THERE. Volunteers
are better educated, better motivated, and more willing to serve. A draft
was fine in the 1950s and 60s, but is unwanted today, despite what a couple
of politicians in D.C. think.
