Hmmm, it looks like only the gunship kit will be retired - the Hueys will
soldier on for a few more years.

The youngest airframe would be close to 30 years old by now, so by
Australian Defence standards it's almost new.

The Hueys were replaced by Blackhawkes in ADF service: however it was
decided that control of the Blackhawkes would be with the Army NOT the
RAAF as before. Hence the RAAF is left with heavy vehicles C130Js,
Chinooks etc. The RAAF is hanging on to its Hueys because they are
no longer in frontline service and because it is not to receive
funding for a replacement for large numbers of medium helicopters.
The Army having it's own aviation wing.

The attack/reconanisence role will be handled by the Eurocopter Tiger.
The "Aussie Tiger" will be manufactured in Australia.

No, all RAAF rotary wing operations were to be transferred to the Army. The
Iroquois went to the Army, however 12 Squadron was disbanded and their
Chinooks were put into storage as the Government of the day were of the
oppinion that the Blackhawks could carry out the role of the Chinooks too.

They later realised their error and upgraded Chinooks later went into
service with the Army.
