The American Society of Aviation Artists will be having our 2005 Forum
at Pax River!
At the recent Forum in Dayton, we got a slide preview of the station
and our venue, and have been assured that the Navy will roll out the
red carpet for the attending artists. They're pretty sure June 2005
will be the date - the Forums usually last a week, and are chock-full
of opportunites to enhance your artistic skills via both academic
sessions and personal critiques from accomplished artists. The Navy
has promised full access to their facilites and a varied assortment of
TPS jets as well.
The *juried* exhibition, which will hang there (hanging dates TBD), is
not only a feather in the cap, but a potential wallet-fattener -
something like $9000 in cash awards will be handed out! Yep, I'm
already working on basic sketches for a painting which I hope to
enter.
I've been to three Forums already, and the education (a major focus of
ASAA) has been easily worth triple the modest investment of my money
and travel time.
No, you don't have to be a professional artist to enter! When I
joined as an Associate member I had only done one serious aviation
painting - and as my (solicited) critiques showed, I had a LOT to
learn. I've come a long way since then, I'd like to think, and a
major part of that is due directly to the personal interactions and
just "listening" I've had at the three Forums I've been to. The
quarterly ASAA newsletter is full of info too.
No, I'm not a paid spokesman, but I do know from personal emails that
many modelers are also 2-D types, or are seriously interested in
learning "how" to transfer their talents to the canvas surface . . .
Interested in learning more? Please go to their site at:

If you have any basic questions, I'll be happy to respond if emailed
personally (or here if I catch the thread), but the site will pretty
much tell you what you need to know about the organization and what it
has to offer.
Hope to see ALL of you at Pax River next year!
