AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. – A woman has been nominated to replace a
dean at the Air Force Academy who was criticized for failing to
recognize a growing sexual assault problem at the school.
President Bush nominated Col. Dana H. Born to replace David A. Wagie,
dean of faculty at the academy since 1998, the school announced
Friday.
Wagie, who was cleared by the Pentagon of any wrong...

Ahhh, the good ol Associated Press, flogging a six month old story. To
recount, the assertions of sexual assault, mostly unsubstantiated and
now many evaporated led to the release of the Superintendent, the
Commandant of Cadets and the two senior officers in the Officer
Training Department (one of whom had only been assigned for 30 days
and couldn't have been on station when any of the allegations
occured.)
The Dean of Students is not part of the problem nor even part of the
solution at this point.
But, flog, flog, flog.
The scandal du jour is about steroid use in the athletic department.
Last month's scandal was about cheating on tests. The sex thing has
been gone for a long time.

All true. However, three senior officers were relieved of duty along with the
Commandant, and of course the Superintendent's forced retirement and demotion.
There is no Officer Training Department. The Academy goes to great lengths to
insist that all of its personnel (officers, enlisted, civilian, military,
academic, athletic) train Cadets to be officers. There is the 34th Training
Wing which is subordinate to the Commandant. I have no idea what its mission
is, since it didn't exist when I was a Cadet in the 70s.
Ed, for some real great reading, visit www.aog-usafa.org and
www.usafatoday.com. The USAFA AOG is run by pedantic posterior smoochers who
do a wonderful job of cheerleading both the USAF and the USAFA party lines.
USAFA grduates generally consider a cranial anal inversion to be a prerequisite
to working at the AOG. USAFATODAY is written by graduates who choose to think.
They pull no punches. In fact, the Superintendent directed the USAFA IS folks
to block access to USAFATODAY from all USAFA computers until only recently.
You have no idea how your "unsubstantiated" comment has reshaped an entire
institution. My son and daughter (USAFA 2003 and 2004 respectively) personally
knew many of the accused and many of the accusers. Their descriptions of the
Cadets involved in the events, as well as their descriptions of the incidents
that they were personally knowledgeable with were grossly dissimilar to the
descriptions of the events reported by both the gullible media and the
careerist opportunist congresspersons who were "investigating" to alleged
problem. There is a lot of carnage at the Academy, both staff and Cadet. The
Air Force Academy has become fraternity oriented (in uniform), and the premier
politically correct institution in the Department of Defense.
