Flying in Germany by
Bob Fry
http://jimsladesairlines.com/beil.html
I've known Harmut from many years ago when he was flying his Ercoupe
from the Bay Area. He returned to Germany a few years ago and wrote
this report from his native land on the differences between US and
German GA.

A blast from the past by
AJ
"From out of the clear blue of the Western sky . . .comes Sky King!"
Here are links to every episode of the "Sky King" TV show. I wonder
if any pilots on this ng were inspired as kids by this how?
Enjoy!

frost on the wing by
Jose
The other day I went flying, pretty close to the shortest day of the year, to preserve night currency. I took advantage of a day that wasn't brutally cold - in fact it was above freezing, so I didn't need preheat or thermal underwear. It was good to get in the air after several months of not...

density ht, pressure ht and landing charts. by
terry
Air density is criticial to aircraft performance, which is why it
surprises me that both Piper and Cessna Landing performance charts
show the climbout weight limit as a function of pressure height and
not density height. As I understand it ( at least from Australian
Regs) the aircraft needs to...

Digital airspace data question -- any FAA data gurus out there? by
Tuno
I have a software project that uses the FAA NACO (charting office)'s
National Flight Database (NFD) as a source for controlled and
restrictive airspace data. It works great, BUT ...
The Controlled Airspace (UC records) only include classes B, C and
D ...
The Restrictive Airspace (UR records)...

Condemn the FAA in every media forum and venue by
WolfRat
If you are eligible for retirement from the FAA I hope you
are counting the hours until January 3, 2008 (for CSRS
employees.) For FERS employees, the magic day is December
31, 2007 according to this article.
But regardless of which date you choose---you should choose
one of them and GET LOST....

Class B airspace notation by
BillJ
I thought I understood everything that could be on a sectional, but
before a trip to New York City airspace, I studied the sectional and
terminal area charts a little extra carefully. Just southwest of Newark
(EWR) (and also other places) there is a notation such as 70/+12 in blue
for the floor...

Sean D. Tucker Aerobatics - WOW! See this link! by
Ricky
I started going to airshows with my dad as a young boy in the 70s.
Although often bored while my dad demonstrated and tried to sell his
Texas Taildragger, 180 h.p. & long range tanks and various other
Cessna conversions, I did get the honor of seeing some legendary
aerobatic performers.
Duane Cole,...

Where is everyone flying for Christmas? by
Jay Honeck
We're supposed to head to Wisconsin on the 26th -- but the weather is
looking fairly ugly, with yet another low-pressure center zipping
through the Midwest. Might have to fly the Subaru IFR at 0' AGL...

Bad Month for Flying by
Jay Honeck
(AP) CHICAGO - Dense fog and a low cloud ceiling forced airlines to
cancel more than 200 flights at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport
on Friday at the start of the busy holiday travel season.
Travelers also encountered weather-related delays at airports in the
New York City...

Eddy Currents by

I planned to give some night flight rides to friends and family
visiting this weekend. Winds during the day were steady at 8 or so at
MGW and ACG. I called the Connellsville (VVS) AWOS and it reported
winds calm after dark. So it looked like a good night to take a
pleasant joy ride.
Temps were...

Christmas Eve by
LWG
I have always had problems with the heat in my plane. In the fall, I
replaced a lot of the scat tubes, at least the ones I could get to easily.
Unfortunately, that only helped the problem a bit, but it didn't cure it.
Winter flights were an ordeal, especially for those in the rear seat. I...

Dreams of Flying by
[email protected]
In keeping with the Christmas spirit, this post is not meant to
advance the technology of aviation, nor is it designed to stir any
controversy (there's enough of that the rest of the year). This is
just a lighthearted, whimsical post.
Most pilots I've met talk about how they have always dreamed...

help identifying old airplane by
Gerald S.
I never saw this in person but saw pictures of it. IIRC these are the
characteristics:
1. "old" - I'd say from the 1930's to early 1950's.
2. monoplane
3. prop - can't even remember if it was single or multi
4. I'm guessing about twice the size of a DC3
5. closed cabin (I'm guessing it had a...
