CFI textbook recommendations? by
Gatt
The Jeppesen CFI manual is $71. The ASA is $25. That's practically an hour
of flying time, but I'm a little disappointed with the ASA 2007 FAR/AIM.
For commercial pilots, for example, the ASA book's suggested reading
includes Part 121 but doesn't actually include it.
Does anybody know if the...

Why are so many British men gay? by

Serious question here,.
No it isn't. It is just a bad trolling exercise. Surely the amount of
British men who are gay would be no higher than anywhere else? Whether
people feel able to...

flying around niagara falls by
Andrey Serbinenko
Hi all,
I'm going to be in KBUF this weekend, and was contemplating
giving my passengers a brief aerial tour of the Falls.
Are there any special considerations? I'm new to that area,
so a word of experience would be very welcome! Thanks!!
Andrey

Should I upgrade from Skylane to Cirrus SR20? by
Marc CYBW[_2_]
I am a fractional owner of a pair of very nice Skylanes at Springbank
airport in Calgary (CYBW) and fly here and there, mostly just around Alberta
but occasionally on vacation - usually over the mountains to the wet
coast -(i.e. Vancouver island) - about 50 hrs /yr. Great operation. Great...

Should I upgrade from Skylane to Cirrus SR20? (not mxmaniac infested) by
gwengler
I would also agree that going from a C182 to am SR20 would be a
downgrade. The SR20 is much more comparable to a C172 with the
exception of speed. As far as utility goes, the C182 is unbeatable in
that class. Look at weight, weight & balance issues, short field take
off and landing distances,...

passed Commercial checkride yesterday! by
gatt
Only flew for 1.9 (eventful) hours. After we landed, the examiner said
"Well, the problem with this airplane is that you can't do a landing gear
failure. In most planes, you can disable the landing gear and make the pilot
manage that extra stress and workload while setting up to land."
So I...

PA-28-140 to Juneau. by
EridanMan
Hey Guys.
So my dad is flying out at the end of July. He is a commercial rated
pilot who has not been behind the yoke of an aircraft in nearly thirty
years (I'm 25... he quit flying when he moved from TX to DC a few
years before I was born).
We've decided we're going to have a good old...

Mooney Acclaim vs. Columbia 350/400 (which has fixed landing gear??) by
Justin Gombos
Doesn't it bother you Columbia fanatics that the manufacturer designed
the landing gear to be fixed? Here's a pricey high-end aircraft where
most of the design decisions favored speed and range, then they
compromised the aerodynamics of it by using fixed landing gear.
Columbia is claiming their...

Airline refuses to land with killer on board, worries about costs by
Mxsmanic
Continental Airlines had a murder suspect on board its flight to New Delhi but
refused to turn around and land because of the cost of dumping fuel:

Odd that carrying nail clippers on board can result in felony charges, but

Storm development and rain by

Is there a good correlation between the appearance of rain in a

familiar with the standard three stage picture of thunderstorm
development, and the fact that if significant winds are present a storm

Cessna 210 Rental by

Does anyone have any idea of rental rates for a non-turbocharged 210 and/
or a straight leg 182? I'm in Socal, so any rates from there would really
be useful.

Pilots flying into Oregon must register with the state!? by
Jim Logajan
Maybe I'm misreading this, but it looks to me like Oregon requires any
general aviation pilot who flies into or through Oregon must then
register with the Oregon Department of Aviation within 60 days. Unless
they have some other meaning for "operating"? Likewise, in all the
material I've ever...

ION Aircraft update.
Some quick takes:
1. Nose gear is a "for now" deal.
2. Wheel pants ...when there's time.
3. Wings (et al) will be painted before OSH. Decision made.
4. Ask me about the canopy! Fun. Fun. Fun. (More later tonight)
5. Jabiru 3300...

Which of these is cheating? by
Mxsmanic
Lately I have modified my flying methods in the sim in ways that seem
to produce better results, but I don't know if I'm learning to do
things correctly or simply acquiring bad habits. I want to make sure
that I don't "cheat" too much when flying.
For example, lately I've had a tendency to adjust...

VOR GPS Coordinates by
Google Madness
Since I use a non-aviation GPS when I fly, I only have airports and not VORs
in the Garmin database of streets and places.
So I put together this .gpx file (GPS eXchange format) which can be imported
into GPS Applications and downloaded into the GPS.
I also included a comma delimited text file of...

Fuel Prices For The July Pilgrimage by
RST Engineering
I'd like a consensus opinion from the newsgroup denizens who use any of the
popular "fuel pricing" websites as to the one that they find the most
accurate. My personal favorite over the last few years has been Airnav, but
I'm willing to be persuaded that there is better.
Reason being, about...

The "New" Bendix/King by

Anyone have anything to share (rumors, non-public info, or predictions) on
what the "new" Bendix King will be? For those who are not aware, they have a
full page ad in AOPA Pilot (June 2007 issue) on page 63 on this announcement
scheduled for Oshkosh.
IMO, they have a whole lot of catching up...

Where are you? People want to learn to fly! We pay highest rates in
the country for CFI's.
We need instructrors and tow pilots. We help you get ratings. Gliders
are not something you jump off hills. Our gliders fly at 150 knots
above class A airspace.
All glider hours count toward 747 ratings. ...
