Basair by
dasb
I wish to pursue my CPL
course from Australia. I want to know if Basair is a good option. How
are the instructors over there and what are the aircraft used. I am
from India. Also, if there are any ex students of Basair who are
currently employed in any airline industry, please let me know....

Garmin GPSmap 496 in simulator mode? by
student pilot
Hi guys,
first of all: Happy Newyear!
I have a quick question on the Garmin GPSmap 496 (,which I bought about
a month ago). Is there a way to simulate a route? I know it works in
automotive mode but (if it's there) I could not find it in aviation
mode :-(
I thought, as a student pilot, it...

avoiding bad weather by
Jim Macklin
If the airplane is damaged, out of annual and repairs
adequate to get a ferry permit are not possible at the
location, trucking is likely easier than flying in a crew
and tools to some remote lake.
I didn't say VFR, I know full well what the VFR and IFR
minimums are. The OP was talking...

MSP closed a runway. Black returning home for the Hollidays? by
Montblack
My gal, Black, is on a runway in Minot, ND (next in line) waiting for her
NWA DC9-30 to take off.
They have great weather in Minot today, after getting pounded by snow for
three straight days. In the Twin Cities, we've got no snow left due to weeks
of mild winter temps and heavy rains all day...

Aircraft Checkout Flights by
john smith
This is a companion posting to the one entitled Head Scratcher.
When I do an aircraft checkout, I will only fly them during the
daylight. I don't want to be fumbling around in the dark in an
unfamiliar aircraft trying to find the right thing-a-ma-jig to throw,
pull or twist.
Once I am...

The span of two floats is probably wider than the legal road
width in most states.

Will the new government have any effect on GA? by
Andrew Sarangan
My voting decision was influenced in large part on which candidates
supported GA. I called each candidate's office and asked for their
views on GA and ATC privatization.
I was wondering what people think about how GA will be affected by the
new government, on things like ATC privatization, user...

In the "Some folks are never satisfied" department... by
Jay Honeck
I was speaking with an FBO owner today about the trials and
tribulations of customer service. We commiserated over how you just
can't win, sometimes. He told me that he tries to keep his rental
fleet pristine, but has seen some pretty funny "squawks" on the
clipboard over the years.
The best one...

Chicago area from the southwest - advice? by
Chad Speer
We're visiting friends who live in downtown Chicago next weekend and
I'm considering a few airports for our visit. Aside from lamenting
about the murder of Meigs (which would have been perfect, of course) or
suggesting a boycott, can anyone offer suggestions as to the best field
and FBO for the...

Head Scratcher by

How do a 61-year old retired airline pilot and a flight instructor with
40 years of experience crash and die?
This happened two days ago in Central Ohio. The pilot had just purchased
the 1966 Mooney M20F and was getting on a check out flight with the
instructor. Witnesses report the aircraft...

audio adaptor for headset? by
Paul kgyy
Does anyone know of an adaptor that would allow, say, Ipod input to the
headphones? Ideally, it would have internal electronics that would
ramp the audio down when ATC transmits.
I know that many ANR headsets have this built in, but I have a passive
set that I like well enough to continue to use.

Crosswind landing control.. by
Dan
All,
When touching down in a crosswind, after the mains and the nosewheel
have all touched down firmly and are rolling, would it be proper
procedure to apply slight forward pressure to get better steering from
the nosewheel? Often, noseweel steering seems ineffective, and this
seems to have...
