New Plane and Mountains by
randall g
I just purchased a 1974 Cardinal RG and am very happy with it so far.
I have been privileged to live in a very beautiful part of the world.
All we are missing here are trees that change colours in the fall!
Here is a trip log made yesterday through the Coast Mountains of British
Columbia. Lots of...

Autopilot fighting for control by
Mxsmanic
In simulation, if I set the autopilot to maintain the altitude, and
then try to change pitch with the controls, the control surfaces
barely move, and I can hardly have any effect on pitch.
I think this is a limitation of the simulator. My guess is that, in
real life, the autopilot continuously...

Amusement by
Dylan Smith
When I heard the sad news about the plane crash in New York on this
morning's BBC Radio 4 'Today' programme, I immediately predicted what
Skylune's action would be and almost predicted with 100% accuracy what
the subject line of his new thread would be, and what the message
contents would be. At...

On-field places to eat by
FLAV8R
I know this has been done before, but has anyone thought about putting
together another list of on-field places to eat?
JP took everyone's input and used it for his own profit.
I would be willing to recreate a website listing for free (always free) if
there was enough input.
Has anyone else...

First Hand Accounts of Manhattan tall building crash by
Owen
From New York Times:
Luis Gonzalez, 23, was one of several construction workers and others
viewing plans for renovating an apartment in the Belaire when they
looked out the window and saw a plane headed their way.
“It was coming right at us, directly at us at the floor where we were
working on,”...

Weather during Cirrus crash in New York City by
Owen
The Cirrus apparently crashed into the Manhattan building around 1440
local time, or 1840Z. KNYC is the closest official weather station to
the crash site. Below are the weather observations taken at KNYC and
nearby about 11 minutes after the accident. Almost immediately after
the accident...

helicopters and tfrs by
swag
I was at a high school football game a week ago and the local news
helicopter came to watch the game. After landing and filming some
footage, it took off and buzzed the stadium in a pretty high speed bank
of about 30 to 40 degrees, maybe 150 feet up.
So I thought all sporting events were tfrs. ...

Jumpers (was F*cking hell!!) by
Mike Isaksen
Gus, hope you don't mind that I cross posted this. The video is incredible
from the jumper perspective. I noticed the plane in the lower left of the
video frame,... and I remember the pilot mantra: if it aint movin in the
windshield, you will hit it.
Jumpers are the only real scary aviation...

Passenger Briefing - One More thing to Mention by
Kyle Boatright
I'm sure most of us have been surprised by a passenger's action at one time
or another, but my wife (Kelly) startled the heck out of me this weekend.
We made a trip to Texas to visit her school (Texas A&M) to see a football
game and to visit with family and friends while we were in the area. At...

Record Highs/Record Lows by
Jay Honeck
Last week we set a new record high here in Iowa City, of (I think) 93
degrees.
Tonight they are predicting record lows in the low 20s -- a swing of 70
degrees in a week. Prior to the arrival of those temperatures,
they're calling for wind gusts to 50 mph.
We've gone from flying -- and sweating...

Winglet sliced off? by
[email protected]
I was recently on a SWA flight aboard a 737-800, and looking at the
large winglet that the 737-800 sports (for lift enhancement, drag
reduction), it occured to me that perhaps the recent 737-800 that went
down in Brazil after colliding with an Embraer jet may have had one of
its winglets sliced...

Cory Lidle's Plane Crash into Building by
[email protected]
Fox News just briefly had up on their scrolling news feed on TV that
Corey was flying the airplane. Of course considering the hit and run
media wants to be the first to report anything this could be a mistake.
I haven't seen it again.

Pirep on eFlyBook by
Viperdoc
I purchased an eFlyBook from MyAirplanes.com a week after Oshkosh this year,
and initially was very happy with the unit. There were some software
glitches and upgrades needed, but the overall quality of the screen and
convenience were outstanding.
However, on my first use during a 1000 mile xc,...

Coordinated turns and the little ball by
Mxsmanic
How much of a movement in the little ball in the turn indicator
corresponds to something you can feel in a real aircraft? And how
much of a movement represents an error large enough to affect flight
safety or proper maneuvering?
