Jet crashes through fence onto Las Vegas street by
Owen
Ok, perhaps "crashes" isn't the best word, but someone forgot the
chocks! Yikes. Expensive mistake. Maybe it was just trying to pick up
some high rollers at the MGM for the trip home.....

Airport and poked its nose several...

Is rudder required for coordinated turns? by
Mxsmanic
Is it always necessary to use the rudder to execute a coordinated
turn? When I turn (in simulation) it seems that just rolling the
aircraft suffices, as long as the bank angle isn't too steep. (And
no, I don't have automatic rudder control enabled.)

Is it a fair assumption that at best L/D speed the drag will be the
least?
Thanks in advance,

"Must-Have" Podcasts? by
Kai Glaesner
Hello community,
since I'm commuting a lot and aviation related content is rare on the
air, I got used to listening podcasts while in the car.
Starting with Jason Miller's great "The Finer Points" I'm now looking
for more sources, especially related to IFR flying and other "advanced"...

The LEX crash - A CRM view by
[email protected]
If as PNF you notice that the PF has just turned on to the wrong runway
to commence the takeoff roll, are you permitted to alert him (can't see
why not, actually, if lives are likely to be on the line) to it or are
you expected to just shut up and let him make the call? Presume for the
moment that...

Gone West by
Bob Chilcoat
Hi, Folks,
I wanted to let you know that my brother, David, passed away August 30th in
Columbus, OH after a three-year struggle with ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease).
Dave was a 500-hour instrument rated pilot, and an amazing guy

Sea Wings pin? by
Robert M. Gary
I just got my phase 1 sea wings in the mail. It doesn't seem to have
anything specific to sea on it. Its just two big wings with a globe in
the middle. I thought it was suppose to have an anchor on it or
something? The certificate they sent me says "Sea Wings".

Why are center tanks not used? by

Why does it seem that wing tanks are filled in commercial airliners in

Wouldn't heavy wing tanks increase the inertia of the aircraft around

visual contact with other traffic by
Marc Adler
Listening to http://audio.liveatc.net:8012/kjfk_app_final , I hear a
lot of instructions from the tower to follow other traffic, but the
pilots don't always know what aircraft they're following. It sounds
like the tower expects them to be able to recognize an airplane (type,
airline, etc.) from two...

Beach Runs? by
Nik
While surfing in 2003, when I lived in Wilmington, NC saw a Pitts
flying about 20 feet high and 200-300 feet from the shore, probably
doing around 100kts. How legal was he? Do have any nice experiences
about Beach Runs?

Flying an air racer... by

A friend on our field owns one of the 25 or so Swearingen SX-300
airplanes flying in the world. This 2-place kit plane was built to
certified standards, has a humongous engine, tiny wings, and regularly
races at Reno. He recently won 4th place overall in the cross-country
race at Airventure...

Trip report: Cirrus SR-22 demo flight by

Last year at SnF I stopped by the Cirrus booth and indicated interest in the Cirrus, leading to an offer of a demo flight. Scheduling problems prevented this from actually happening for over a year, but today the wait paid off.
