Insurance out of hand? - AOPA flying clubs high perf retractable by
Ron
Just a question to see if this is typical. Evidently the only agency now
willing to insure Flying Club high performance retractables is AOPA. Its
great they are stepping up to help AOPA members, we have a 210 and Avemco
has left the market.
However the new policy in effect for our club will be...

"Wind 285 at 186" by
Capt.Doug
"Wind 285 at 186".
That's the highest I've ever seen outside a hurricane. I was coming from the
Windy City going south to the Sunshine State at FL330 and crossing the
jetstream. The ride through it wasn't too bad, just occasional light chop.
I'm sure glad I wasn't westbound!

Beeping Thing by
Slick
I can't figure out what this beeping thing was that I encountered the other
day while flying a 172 from our club. I'm a fresh private and I took my
parents to Mansfield airport for Sunday morning breakfast. When we left on
runway 14 This beeping thing came on. I think it's a DME. I've seen one...

In order to reduce arrival rates airports have the following 'tools' to
use...
1. ask a flight in the air to 'Slow Down'
2. ask a flight in the air to 'Hold' over the airport
3. issue a 'Ground Stop'

GPS and DME by
nobody
Does anyone know if it is legal to substitute distance and speed from an
approach certified GPS in place of a DME on a DME required approach?
Thanks,

Piper Seneca III Announciator Panel by
Richardt Human
I am looking for a secondhand, but complete announciator panel for the
Seneca III. The sun has destroyed the one in my plane completely and I
have looked all over the world the find another, but without any
success. Maybe there is some-one out there, on a scrap yard which can
sell me that little...

Hi all I am helping a friend promote a web site. You see a childhood
friend of hers lost her husband at the World Trade Center on Sept. 11,
2001. She has run into some hard times and my freind wants to help her.
So she came up with the idea to market Just say NO to Bin Ladin

2005 RAH Flyin at Pinckneyville goof correction by
David Wenk
Can somebody please enlighten me as to how and why Pinckneyville came to be
the home of the annual RAH Flyin? We're trying to do a profile on PJY and
the fly-in in particular, for Flyguides and AOPA's Postcards online. I
checked the FAQs but couldn't find what I was looking for. Anybody out...

Citation crash by
John Kirksey
My wife just forwarded me this info, anyone heard anything about it? For
whatever reason, I was checking random METARs in CO (I live here in
Richmond) today just before lunch, and for the first time I saw sky
conditions listed as VV001, which I guess means "vertical visibility 100
feet".

Iced up Cirrus crashes by
Dan Luke
The more of these Cirrus accidents I read about, the more I'm convinced
that Cirrus has a serious marketing/training problem:

I'm not convinced there is anything wrong with the aircraft per se.
What seems to be happening is...

Sport Pilot examiners by
Cub Driver
The Aero-News Propwash newsletter had a lengthy piece this morning on
what's entailed in becoming a Sport Pilot examiner, and how the first
FAA class (in December) proceeded. The bad news you already know: it's
a guvmint program and the guvmint's left hand doesn't know what its
right hand is doing....

Sport Pilot - School Won't Offer by
Gary G
I started my PP training about 1 1/2 years ago, but due to some unfortunate medical problems
in my family, have had to postpone it until this summer.
Now that the Sport Pilot license is available, I inquired with my school.
The manager basically said "it's useless" and couldn't really see why...

CPL Question by

I am working on my CPL. I am wondering how long it usually takes a 300 hour
pilot to master all of the maneuvers to within PTS. I have been working on
these maneuvers for six months once or twice a week (weather) here in the
North East and am still not ready for the check ride. How many hours will...

Is XM weather worthwhile? by
Ron Garret
My SR22 partners want to install XM weather to the tune of about $10k.
I'm not convinced it's worthwhile. The plane is based in Southern
California where we don't tend to get the kind of squirrelly weather
they get east of the Mississippi. In the summer we'll get isolated
thunderstorms over the...

How saturated adiabatic lapse rate varies with temperature by
Andrew Sarangan
Following the previous discussion on lapse rate, can anyone point me to
source where I can find out how saturated adiabatic lapse rate varies with
temperature? I know that this number increases from 1C/1000' to 3C/1000' as
the temperature gets colder, but I would like to see a plot or an...
