AA bird strike by
PaulH
The Chicago Tribune reported this morning that the American AL jet
that had to return to OHare on one engine a couple of weeks ago lost
the engine because of ingestion of 6 cormorants. These birds are
heavier than most and totally destroyed the engine. I'm glad I wasn't
sitting next to the engine...

[OT]: SpaceShipOne Pictures Uploaded by
Hey everyone,
If anyone's interested, I've uploaded my pictures from both X-Prize flights.
Somehow, happily, I managed to make it out there for both launches. I even
captured the sonic boom of re-entry from the X2 flight, and uploaded it as
an mp3....

Diesel aircraft engines and are the light jets pushing out the twins? by
Thomas Borchert
R.,
What has happened to the development of the diesel aircraft
engines? As far as I have seen, only Diamond has a production
aircraft with diesel engines (they flew one across the Atlantic,
with 5.76 gph).
In the European market, Diamond offers both the single-engine DA40 and
the DA42...

Impaired Pilots by
Jay Honeck
On a flight to Galesburg, IL last week, we were utilizing Quad Cities
Approach for VFR flight following. Being a Thursday morning, we
pretty much had the airwaves to ourselves, with the exception of a
Cirrus driver who was coming in to land in the Quad Cities.
The first call we heard from our...

I have a question which is:
what would be the lightest type of aircraft which would make regular travel
for 3-4 persons and luggage to travel between europe and the US?
We were thinking about a TBM700, PC12, Mirage, Malibu something like that...

airshow crash by
Kobra
Mort,
Take a look at this story. This happened to an SU-29 that went into a spin.
I thought these planes can recover from almost any spin. What do you think
happened?

AirPlanLite by
Dean Wilkinson
Hello RAP newsgroup pilots, posters and lurkers,
I posted a message a couple weeks ago about a new product that I put out
called AirPlanLite. I was wondering how many people in RAP have actually
tried it, and if they have any feedback they would like to share.
I know that because I am asking for...

Best time of year to learn in Florida by
Damian Skeeles
Hi,
I'm living in the UK, and have been planning to take my PPL for a
couple of years now. The original plan was to take it this October,
but it's a little late for that now, hence I'm now looking at March
next year. Due to time & cost constraints, I'm thinking of going the
US-based intensive...

Scientists are now predicting a 70% chance of Mt. Saint Helens erupting and
throwing rocks as far as three miles away. Pilots flying in the area should
steer clear of the crater.

My first in-flight mechanical failure by

Given my relative low time of 700 hours, I wanted to share the story of
my first in-flight mechanical problem, which happened today while
returning from southwest Pennsylvania to central NY.
Cruising along at 11,000 feet with the XM radio playing in my headsets
(thanks to an earlier thread here,...

Max gross weight by
Chris
How do aircraft manufactures determine the maximum gross weight for a
given plane? I know I've come across articles that mention on a cool day
you can go over the max. gross weight by a percentage, I think 20% was
thrown out there but not sure. Then again, on a hot day you might not
get any where...

Lightspeed 3G Headset Updates? by
Marco Leon
Well Google shows the most recent solicitation from the group for feedback
on the Lightspeed 3G headsets was back in early 2003. Jay Honeck gave a very
positive update in March of 2004 in response to another post but no mass
(relatively speaking) feedback on general experiences. Soooooo....if I...

Anyone have any recommendations for aviation software for the Palm PDA. I'm

Has anyone seen this?:

Does anyone know the penalties for ignoring this? I mean: Is the FAA
enforcing this or is this just something that the TSA hopes we will all
just bend over for? Can anyone quote the penalties for...
