Backup for dropping the gear by
Andrew Gideon
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----

I've been reading the POH for my club's 182RG, and I find myself surprised.
The manual gear extension replies upon the same hydrolic pressure system as
the powered mechanism.
Isn't that insufficiently redundant?
I'm not sure what I expected - perhaps...

Crosswind components by
James L. Freeman
Can someone offer a non-mathematical EXPLANATION (as opposed to
DESCRIPTION) of why the speed of headwind and crosswind components of
a wind add up to more than the speed of the wind?
Thanks.

Newbie by

Just found this group a few days ago, it looks like it is interesting. I
started taking private pilot cert. lessons this weekend. I logged my first
two hours. The first half hour was windy and I was questioning why I wanted
to do this, but we went back out the second day for just over an hour...

fuel price site by
Rosspilot
I did a trip to Florida last August and used a site to flight plan. It had a
component where you could plan using fuel price as a parameter. I can't find
the site . . . anyone know it?

Katie Couric of NBC is in Chicago today for Today. She interviewed

then asked him about the plans to expand O'Hare Airport and noted that
there was some opposition to this.
Daley responded that they were moving ahead and that...

Stepping up to a Bonanza by
Corky Scott
No not me, I have only 90 or so hours and no money. It will belong to
a friend of mine who recently decided that he probably won't live
forever so he'd best enjoy things while he can and bought himself a
nice V tail Bonanza.
Not sure about the model but it has an injected Continental IO-550...

One-eyed pilot? by
Robert Simpson
I'm thinking about taking flying lessons, but I have a condition in one
of my eyes that may cause me to fail the medical.
As I understand it, the 3rd class medical requires 20/40 in "each eye
separately". I have a condition in the optic nerve of my left eye that
limits its detailed vision. I still...

Where CAN you land your plane?? by
ET
The guy complaining about the next door airport got me thinking more about
a question that's been rolling around in my head for some time.
I'm not a pilot (yet), don't own a plane, or even any significant land, but
I've kind of wondered..... If I owned enough land somewhere "could" I just
land my...

I would like to rewrite my JAR licence (PPL) into a FAA licence. I already
have a validation (US licence based on foreign licence). Do anybody know the
procedure? I know that I don't need a regular american licence to fly in the
US but because of some special reasons I try to get a stand alone...

C182 Glass Panel by

I've got a question about the glass panel displays in the C182 (or any other

Cessna decided to incorporate and it got me thinking. My question is:...
