what placards are required? by
Dave Butler
There is a list of placards in the POH (Mooney M20J) and the wording there makes
me think they are all required. Some examples from memory a "DO NOT PUSH",
"NO STEP", "TIRE PRESSURE xx POUNDS". Sorry, I don't have the POH in front of
me at the moment.
The Type Certificate Data Sheet at the...

Insurance payout and 'totaling' by
Michael Horowitz
You insure your a/c . You have an accident and the insurance company
says that if the estimate is between 60-70% of the insured value, they
declare it totaled.
Why is the cut-off point 30-40% lower than the insured value?

Removing paint from windshield by
tony roberts
so - the continuing saga - after my glareshield fell off on takeoff (see
earlier post) a friend repaired it and remounted it. Then he noticed
that he had "missed" a few spots so he brought the aerosol of black
paint into the cockpit . . . well, you can guess the rest.
Does anyone know how to remove...

build time in. I have found two solid looking airplanes, one with around 1000
TTAE/500 STOH ('75 model) and one with around 6500 TT/ 500 SMOH ('69...

Inside the Cowling Fire / Heat Detector? by
David Johnson
How about your nose?
Fortunately, I've never had a fire in an airplane - flying or not.
However, a few years ago I was flying along at economy cruise
(fairly low altitude, as I was enjoying the scenery), when suddenly
something smelled hot. No smoke, but something obviously was amiss.
Of course I...

Could anyone point me in the right direction?! I'm searching for a

If it helps I believe the test pilot was one Harald Penrose. The local

windshield wipers by
tony roberts
When I was in flight school I asked why GA aircraft don't have
windshield wipers and was told that it's because the prop blows the rain
off - really - that's what they told me.
Now I fly lots in rain. This past 2 weeks I have flown in more rain than
I ever wanted to see - and the prop definitely...

Does anyone know of detector available for small aircraft (not transport
aircraft / Part 135, 121) that can be installed in the cowling(s) to detect
the presence of some condition (excessive heat, IR, etc.) that would lead to
an in-flight fire? Examples of those conditions might include a...

Slaving autopilot to a VOR? by
Jay Honeck
My autopilot (2-axis, Piper) is hooked up to my DG, via a "heading bug."
Otherwise, it's just a wing leveler.
I've been told that this autopilot has the capability of being connected to
my VORs.
Can anyone outline what's involved with connecting the two?
Thanks!
