First plane by
Steve Schneider
I mentioned a few weeks ago that I'd post the weight and balance info
for a Cherokee 180 that I used to own. Well, it turns out the airplane
(N7232W) is now the Cherokee Pilots Association plane of the month for
December, and a photo I took of the new owner in flight after some new
paint...

Compass swinging? by
Roy Smith
I've got AC 43.13-1B, which describes the procedure to swing a compass.
What I can't find is the bureaucratic stuff -- who can do it (any pilot?),
and what paperwork follow-up is required (airframe logbook entry, or is
just making the new compass card sufficient?).

Clear coat peeling: Suggestions? by
Mike
We had our archer II painted in 1996, including a clearcoat. About 6 -
12 months ago the clear coat started peeling just a little, almost
exclusively on the control surfaces. (They were removed and painted
separately, so it makes sense they behaved slightly differently. Now
though, the clear...

In-Panel 396/496 Setups with the 430/530? by
Marco Leon
Does anyone have this setup where the 396/496 (particularly the 496) is
in their panel hooked up through an RS232 cable to a 430 or 530? I saw
a post by Mikem with very good specifics on the pin-outs but I have a
couple of questions:
1) Does the 496 pick up the inputted flight plan/route from...

396/496 installation options. by
[email protected]
Our club is contemplating a 396 or 496 for each of our aircraft. It
would be more or less permanently mounted in the plane (Piper Archer
and Dakota). I've seen several yoke mounts, some panel/post type
mounts, the slick AirGizmo's avioincs stack mounts. Our panels are
fairly full and the...

Twin Comanche vs. Mooney/other singles by
E Andersen
Hi all
When a Twin Comanche
flies 165 knots
burns less than 15 gallons
have 2 engines ( :-) )
is relatively cheap to overhaul (OI-320)
is this the "ultimate" twin? I am considering an airplane that flies in the

Sometimes it's the little things that make it all worthwhile... by
Jay Honeck
More than one person has questioned the logic behind owning an
aircraft. Financially, it's a hard sell, and there are more than a few
times when owning a plane can be a real hassle.
But then there are days like Wednesday. The sun was shining brightly
(and warmly, for December -- almost 60...

fuel leak or auxiliary fuel pump malfunction? by
[email protected]
From time to time pilots have observed fuel stains on the nosewheel
wheelpant of our club's 172SP. The only time I have actually seen fuel
dripping from the engine was when I watched a pilot turn the auxiliary
fuel pump on for what seemed to me to be an excessively long period of
time. The fuel...

Understanding fuel servo maintenance by
Robert M. Gary
The fuel shop fixed my fuel servo by replacing the spring that holds
the fuel regulating diaphragm. The tech said the previous spring was
very stiff and he replaced it with one that was softer. Does that
indicate that the previous spring was broken (i.e. stiffer than it
should have been) or does...

396 question by
dlevy
I use mapsource with my 396. Occasionally an address is incorrect. That
got me wondering what is the process by which Garmin (or whoever) builds the
database? Can I submit an error to get the database fixed?

Century Ic Pinout by
Grandmaster
Hi, Does anyone have a graphical representation of the Century Ic
wiring harness? The Century web site schematic displays the pinouts in
a single line, but the connector has parallel rows. My (18 pin)
connector shows that the pins run in a circle as opposed to 1-9 then
starting back at the...

Lyc IO-540 won't make RPM. by
[email protected]
Do you ever have those days where you're just scratching your head?
I've got an IO-540 (strapped to the right side of an E-Model Piper
Aztec) that won't generate full RPM. Let me describe the takeoff
sequence.
During the run-up, both the feather check and the mag check are normal
(done at 1700...

Given that I only put 35 hours on my 150 this year and a very extensive

that needed to be done, complied with recurring AD's Replaced a few cowl
fastener receptacles & general maintenance like airfilter etc....

Hi Tailer Jet Airplane Aerodynamics by
[email protected]
I've asked a lot of experts this question and have
yet to get a cogent answer. Surprising.
When the engines are mounted by the tail in
everything from MD-80s to CJ Citations, why
do they always tilt up at the front?
What aerodynamic problem does that solve?
We know about similar things... why...

LightSpeed QFR CC ANR vs Bose Aviation X by
jbskies
I have used LightSpeed QFR Cross Country (ANR) headset for 4 years.
During this AOPA 2006 convention, I was tempted by the Bose's discount
and purchased a Bose X headset. After 2 flights, today I decide to
return the Bose headset.
The reason that I return the Bose is because it seems to be...
