Soaring in an Airplane (Katana DA-C1) by
Mark James Boyd
It seems that FAI sporting code section 3
definition 1.0.5 is very liberal in its
definition of a motor glider
"Motor glider - A fixed wing aerodyne equipped
with means of propulsion (MoP) capable
of sustaining soaring flight without thrust
from the means of propulsion"
So it seems that even a...

Venting... by
Marc Ramsey
I go to all the trouble of winning a regional contest
so I can get my mug shot in Soaring, and nobody there
bothers to try to contact me for a copy of my photo for
the annual winners spread.
Maybe I'll take up sailing,

Thermal locators! by
Bob Johnson
Serusly, maybe Dr. Jack can log in with his forecast of when he thinks
real-time moving map cockpit displays of current thermals, or (let's not
be unreasonable here) 1-hr old thermals will be available.
Or does he think there is a physical limit to this problem, beyond which
we cannot go? (Like 7...

Finding vent hole in wing skin by
Martin Eiler
We have a Lak 17 in the shop and have found that water cannot
be put into the left wing. It appears that during some previous
repair, apparently the shop glassed and refinished over the vent
hole in the underside of the wing. The problem now is how to
find the exact spot to drill in order to open...

Just saw an On-Star commercial, went something like this:
Mrs. Jones, This is your On-Stat advisor. I show an air-bag deployment and
automatic activation of your on-star system, on Route 16, north of Albany, are
you all right?
Mrs. Jones, Nooooooo!

LS4 Image by
Waduino
Can anyone point me to a good image of an LS4. I want to use it as a
background on my PC, while I build up my hours and dollars to buy one. I've
searched the Web to no avail.
Thanks.

121.5 & Airliners by
Nolaminar
The only time that 121.5 is monitored is over the ocean or very remote areas.
While I can't speak for ALL Carriers, I am pretty sure that none listen in on
121.5 while over the continental US.

What determines LNAV "circling mode"? by
Jack
I have been trying to figure out what is happening with my Cambridge
LNAV since in several flights "speed-to-fly" bars have never appeared,
even in a long continuous glide straight at the goal indicated by the
connected Cambridge GPS. Since "speed-to-fly" bars only appear in
"cruise" mode possibly...

Gliders for the larger pilot by
Steve Hopkins
Do any American gliders cater for the larger glider
pilot? Over on this side of the pond European 'standards'
have seen the death of diversity and now our gliders
only cater for the 'euro-standard-pilot'. Looking for
something big and comfortable with reasonable performance.

The power of RAS by

On the 10th of November, I started a thread about our gliding clubs
new web site - and gave the URL for the website in the post
(www.ggc.co.za). Yesterday - I checked with the webmaster to see if he
had noted an increase in hits to the site. He sent me the following
statistics:

Jantar 2A opinions sought by
Mark Navarre
I am considering the purchase of an Open Jantar 2A and would like to hear
descriptions of the handling quirks and likes/dislikes from current or past
Jantar owners. I have over 400 hours in an ASW-20 and would like something
affordable with longer "legs".
