For Lennie - soaring on Mars by
Mike Borgelt
The pressure difference across a thin vertical slice in a fluid is
dP = rho x g x dh where rho is density, g = acceleration due to
gravity, dh is the vertical thickness of the slice.
So by rearrangement we get
dP/dh = rho x g
dP/dh is the vertical pressure gradient(rate of change of pressure

SSA Soaring Magazine by
Mel Eastburn
I am attempting to dispose of a very large collection
of gliding books and mags acquired over many years
by a friend who died very suddenly recently. Any proceeds
will go to charity.
Amongst this is a complete (I believe) set of the US
SSA Magazine 'Soaring' from mid 1966 with some earlier
issues....

Pullups, I stand corrected! by
Derrick Steed
Lars,
I think you may be forgetting something else. For the same speed of travel,
the light glider is using energy faster than the heavy glider. It seems
paradoxical, but it is true - look at the loaded and unloaded polars to see
that the heavy glider is either: a) travelling faster for the same...

Motorgliders - bragging rights by
Gary Evans
An even better question would be where on the hero
list do they go when they don't get away with it and
have no back up plan in place? I know where some have
gone and I don't want to go there just yet!

Cobra Trailer by
My PW5 came with a very nice Cobra trailer that originally was for a Discus.
It's all metal (no Fiberglas). Needless to say it's way to big for the PW5-5
although it has been converted very nicely. I'm sure it would be very easy
to convert it back for a 15 meter ship.
If anyone would like to...

Gauteng Regionals (South Africa) - The Fat Lady sings! by
Stephen Thomas
This year's Gauteng regionals has closed out after 4 days. It appears
that high winds on the last two days precluded further competition.
For a full list of Trophy awards and final results see:

I see the SSSA webmaster came in at 10th in his class - at least he's
out there...

Tow plane airspeed vs. glider being towed airspeed? by
MHende6388
Asked a question I could not answer yesterday.....
Why does the towplane indicated airspeed always indicate so much higher than
the glider behind? As much as 10 knots. Consistent with the Pipers, Cessnas and
Grummans.
And yes, compensated for kts. vs. mph.
Thanks,
Michael

These will incorporate impact absorbing memory foam. We made similar

It seems to me that the ASA is just a private little racing club for
those with expensive sailplanes. In my opinion the reason many people
drop out of soaring after getting a license, is that there is no place
to fly other then commercial operations which are more expensive and
are focused on other...

SN-10: A question for Dave by

Dave,
I've been pleased with the newest upgrade in the software... I like
the screen options very much. On a related note, will ILEC include an
integrated GPS engine anytime soon? This seems like it would be a
realatively straight forward upgrade of the system and would allow me
to unclutter my...
