Schweizer 1-26 open cockpit by
[email protected]
If you have an early version of the Schweizer 1-26, we have discovered an open cockpit modification we happen to have in stock. Simply remove the full, enclosed canopy and slip this one on. It has a windshield but the rest is open. Really a lot of fun!

Reported "near miss" near Chicago. by
john firth
The Chicago incident has been reiterated in Gliding International
(jan 18). I am happy to report that the " near miss" has been replaced
by "near collision" , a happier outcome!
This is in accordance with my plea for accuracy.

Debunking the Shock Cooling Myth by
[email protected]
from SSA Clubs and Chapters:
Over the years I've come in contact with various club towplane operating procedures that made some attempt to address "shock cooling". These techniques often have the effect of substantially reducing the tow capability of a towplane during a busy day by increasing...

Wait...those aren't allowed anymore. Living in the past. How many on this group recall those "exciting" dashes back to the contest, throwing the glider together as fast as possible, and relaunching, hoping to do better the second time? The rapid assembly was sometimes made...

Pez D. Spencer by
JS[_5_]
Since Pez has come up in another thread, reminded me that I'm missing the entire Texis episode.
Does anyone have that in a place that can be copied, like Dropbox?
Also need Diamonds pages 4, 5, 7, 8, 9, 11, 12, 13 and 14.
Important stuff!
Thanks in advance,
Jim

Lubricant for spar pins by
Jonathan St. Cloud
Did a search of RAS and all the threads were quite old, so I thought I would ask what lubricant do you use when assembling your glider? I have noticed that the lube that comes with Schleicher gliders seems to have more friction and lube. Of course there is the old standby of white lithium, but...

1000km flights by
[email protected]
On 30 December 2017, there were 34 flights of over 1000km posted onto the OLC. These were all in Namibia and South Africa. What is the record number of +1000km flights done in a single day? I would imagine there could have been more flights done because not everyone posts their flights on OLC.

It must be time for some more ADS-B posts, either that or we can talk about PW5 :-)
With the ~$350 street price Trig TN72 GPS source now available in the USA I wanted to revisit my understanding of the situation with ADS-B Out in gliders. I wrote a forum post for local Northern California pilots...

Cessna Citation N238JP Runway Incursion at KUDD by
[email protected]
A snotty Citation driver tries to blame me for HIS runway incursion during my takeoff. Unfortunately, I turned on the cam just after making my call and crossing the runway hold line to take the active (you can see my fingers on the cam in the opening frames). He claims that I never made a call, but...
