Schweizer 1-26 question by
[email protected]
Back in the early 1960s my Dad attended the Schweizer Soaring School in Elmira, NY earning his glider rating as well as his A and B Badges. We were on our family vacation and I was just a tike but remember the field being busy with gliders coming and going. What made this especially fun was that...

These are 100% unedited, straight out of the GoPro. So you might want to scrub through the LONG SHOTS for the interesting bits.

Compare Polars by
Whiskey Charlie
Was just thinking it would be fun if there was a website (or software) that you could overlap polars of multiple gliders at the same time to compare them? Does this exist?
Thanks!

Wind Gradient by
Dan Marotta
Sixty-two knots on downwind, 23 knots at the surface.Ā* I started my base
turn while the intended touchdown point was still in front of me and it
worked out just right.
I learned that my ClearNav gets confused when presented with a 2 kt
ground speed.Ā* A very interesting day over all.

Dennis Tito's flight by
[email protected]
Anybody else notice Dennis Tito and Morgan Sandercock pulling off a 15 hour, 33 minute 2,620.6 km flight on 12/20 in Argentina? 168.5 km/h average speed at altitudes up to 26,500 msl. Longest flight I have heard of in at least ten years (but I could be wrong.) Self launched in the jet powered Arcus...

Cramping and Stiffness by
Robert Seccombe
raxy recently commented, "I once developed cramp in flight. It was extremely painful since I could not move in a way to relieve it."
I have been planning on asking what methods are used to avoid and deal with stiffness and cramping while flying in such close quarters.
It used to be all I had to...

Soaring in Slovenia by
[email protected]
We're planning a trip this summer to Slovenia, and I would like to find a club or commercial glider port where I could spend 2-3 days soaring. I have a glider rating in the U.S. and have flown a couple times in Germany at DASSU (Great place, by the way!). Based on my experience in Germany, I assume...

How does sun heat the air? by
[email protected]
The sun shines down through the atmosphere, hits things on the ground,
the things on the ground get hot, and then the hot things on the
ground heat the air?
Sun light passing through the air does not heat the air at all? Heats
the air some but not much?
If the air is transparent to solar energy,...

Glider cockpit size by
[email protected]
I had exact same problem. I ātriedā on many gliders (I am 180). In szd-55 I could not close the canopy.
I fit comfortably in dg-300 (which I ended up buying) and I fit less comfortably in LS-4.
Aside from the size dg-300 is a dream...

We'll have a customer's HP-24 there, you can try it on for size. Also, it's EAB, so we can easily customize to suit.

ASW 20 Handling Issues? by
[email protected]
The ASW 20 seems to have a reputation for bad behavior in some configurations. Is this reputation deserved or overblown? What has been the experience of those who have owned and flown the glider? Are some variants of the 20 better or worse in terms of handling characteristics?
