hydraulic disk brake upgrade by
shkdriver
Hello,
Has anyone done a disc brake replacement of an original drum brake?
I have reverse engineered a replacement 400x4 wheel for my SHK-1 which uses a hydraulic disk and caliper, and a beringer stick mounted lever master cylinder all employing dot 4 brake fluid, (EPDM seals throughout)
The...

Ventus 2c vs. 2cx by
noel.wade
All -
I've spent a long time studying Schleicher aircraft; not as much
looking at S-H ships. Can anyone explain how much of a performance
difference there is between a V2c and a V2cx? I understand the
fuselage changed between the two; any major improvements or
innovations, or was the D2 fuselage...

Official observer question by
Larry Suter
The SSA form wants me to check a box saying "File security checked using proper software". How on earth would I go about doing that for a Nano flight recorder?
FWIW, I downloaded the pilot's file from the Nano, looked at it on SeeYou and it all seems fine to me.
Thanks,
Larry

Grob 103 Twin Astir tailwheel axle? by
Roger Worden[_2_]
We would like to replace the tail wheel on our Grob 103 Twin Astir. The bearing appears to be 25mm, but on each side there is an insert which reduces it down to a hole for a bolt which is 8mm. The inserts on both sides rotate separately, so I would not call it an axle, but if it were one piece it...

Did my soul good to see and talk to Frank Paynter last night at the gliderport (CCSC). Walking 'just' a little slow but none the worst for wear!

unusual PowerFlarm problems by
Mitch Polinsky[_2_]
I've been having unusual problems with my brick PowerFlarm for several
flights.
Here's the history of my use of PowerFlarm: It was installed by Rex Mayes
during the winter/spring during my annual inspection. I first flew with it
about two months ago, and have had about ten flights total. About...

GPS Locator Advice by
[email protected]
With TA's recent incident highlighting the time sensitive nature of our GPS location (SPOT and InReach) I wanted to try to get the word out on how to get the coordinates of your Friend or Family Member's tracker.
I will try to get this information out to the SSA members better but here is a first...

Bob McKellar
The cable that allows adjustment of the front pedals in our club 103 Twin II
Acro has broken off at the panel, making moving the pedals awkward.
Where should we be looking for such a specific repair item?
Thanks!

PW-5 Main Tire Pressure? by
JohnDeRosa
On our PW-5 the main tire (aft of the CG) is labeled 0.35MPa (mega pascals). The POH says the same thing.
This converts to 50.8 PSI which seems really high to us.
The tire is a 400x4 TOST Aero.
Thanks, John

The near mid-air at the Region 9 contest by

During the course of our regional at Moriarty we had a very close encounter....something on the order of seven feet. One of the two pilots involved made a comment on twenty three point three regarding the manner in which the other pilot had entered the thermal. That evening our CD Tom Kelly...

Canopy open incident. by
Walt Connelly
I found this on YouTube and I would be more interested in what the crowd on Aviation Banter/Soaring had to say. I am impressed that this individual would post his video, has to be a bit embarrassing. Lots of second guessing and backseat flying in the comments but I think he did the right thing. ...

All,
Thanks for all those who helped me out with current Cobra trailer pricing. I now have that and some input from Fidel Ramirez of Applebay Aviation in Moriarty on his view of a fair price given its condition. Its a 2002 Alumuminum-top 15m trailer.
So, I'm going to price it at $12,500 firm. ...

2013 Cobra trailer price list needed for TA trailer sale by

My glider has now been officially totaled by the insurance folks, so my 2002 Aluminum-top Cobra trailer is now up for grabs. I'm trying to price it reasonably, but can't find the 2013 Cobra trailer price list to use as a reference - anyone have a link to this (Wings and Wheels has the 2011 list,...

PowerFLARM Files not valid with OLC by
Tim Taylor
I have had two flights in a row come back with Purple Validation rather than green. So far no explanation from the OLC guys why this is happening.
Very odd thing is that OLC is changing my file names each time they are uploaded.
Tonight I uploaded 36GG8E1.igc and the OLC site renames the file...

Fastest way home? by

The last day at Montague was spectacular, probably the best soaring day I have ever seen! After flying 7 assigned turn-points in an 8-turn (3hr) MAT, I was 45 miles out with 3500' over MC-3 glide home and the SN-10 said I would be 4 minutes over the 3 hr minimum time. My stats page told me I was...
