Hobbs relocating and getting $1 Billion to build ghost town by
Albert Thomas
OK, I'm not making this up. They are going to build a $1 Billion
dollar ghost town "in the middle of New Mexico" right next door to
Hobbs. Last time I checked Hobbs wasn't quiet in the middle of the
state of New Mexico so I guess the $1 Billion includes relocating
Hobbs.....
Here's the link and...

Time-lapse of soaring club launch operation by
Paul Remde
Hi,
Today I took a fun video showing the launch operation at the Minnesota
soaring club on May 12, 2012 from about 11 AM to 3:15 PM. It is much more
fun flying gliders than it would appear from the video.
It turned out to be a pretty good soaring day despite the lack of cumulus
clouds. Fred...

AS-W12 Mods by
Steve Leonard[_2_]
Can anyone help me get in touch with someone who has done the mod to
increase the max flap deflection on an AS-W12 to something on the
order of 50-55 degrees? I remember e-mailing Robert Beck (previous
owner of D-1221, serial 14), but the e-mail I have for him bounces
back. He said his was...

OLC not accepting flights Logs created by a Cambridge 302 by
Robert Fidler[_2_]
Due to the OLC not receiving some sort of a update from Cambridge Aero
Instrument co, it will not accept flights logs created even from the
302 logger. Anyone have this same problem and have a solution??

glider pilot medicals by
Andrew Wood[_2_]
re the letter in this months issue of Soaring regarding glider pilot
medicals: I think this letter confuses the medical requirements for
power planes, LSA and gliders. As I read the FARs (61.23, 61.53)
a US glider pilot does not need a FAA medical, or a drivers
license, to fly a glider, and I...

Hi,
A few customers that bought the new, brighter Oudie 2 units have sent their
used original version Oudies to me to sell for them. The units are complete
with all the accessories. In fact, the accessories are brand new - the ones
that came with their Oudie2 units. I shipped only their...

Crunch Alert (USA) - hugely serious but (apparently) non-fatal by
BobW
Having once 'felt the need' myself, this one undoubtedly has a compelling
story; it will definitely make its way into the NTSB database.
Thank goodness the pilot is (reportedly) OK. SSA member; diamond badge; 2-time
3rd place finisher in Region 9 Regional.
If it happens it must be possible....

STF question by

I am using an oldeer Ilec SB-8 STF vario system, am very happy with it
and absolutely love the vario function (been an Ilec user for many
years) but in my Tetra-15 I am finally using a STF system, and have a
few questions.

FAI badge, should I adjust the FR to airport elevation? by
akiley
I have a Colibri II (approved) flight recorder. This device allows
the user to adjust either the current altimeter setting, or adjust its
pressure altitude to match field elevation. Is this ok to do for
badge flights like silver/gold, or am I supposed to leave it set to
standard...

So I did something stupid the other week. After installing a new vario and a

test the radio. When I keyed the mic on my Terra TX-720 I blew the readio
fuse. Turns out I had mis wired the Mic.Instead of having the mic...
