Duo discus tow release by
XXL
The front seat cable release sheared off at the handle yesterday, and
the cable disappeared into the fuselage bowls. Does anyone have a
drawing to show how to access the pulley connecting the front and rear
releases without cutting a hole in the floor?
Thanks,
Roderick

Be careful with SPOT coordinates!!! by
[email protected]
Last Saturday when I landed out about 65 miles SE of Moriarty, I did
not have cell phone coverage. I turned on the SPOT and pushed the
help button. The location was sent as advertised to Nancy's cell
phone. Nancy and I always use coordinates in degrees, minutes, and
decimal minutes. We had...

Leaking water ballast bags by
Itsaplane[_2_]
One of the bags on my DG-300 is leaking. I took it out of the wing
and confirmed that it's leaking at the seam an inch or so from where
the plastic inlet clamps in place (the wing root end).
Repair options seem limited -- but I'm tempted to try to fold over the
seam of the ballast bag that's...

I don't know if this link well function, but Sporty's Pilot Shop has
pulse oximeters for $89.95!!! Beats the $250+ I paid for mine just a
couple years ago!

Turnpoint coordinate format by
Andy[_1_]
Special thanks to John Leibacher for TP Exchange in general, and for
his assistance at very short notice with creating files for an ASA
club contest remote site.
While working on the file preparation I was surprised to find that
some Cambridge format (DAT) files on TP exchange use...

Cross Country Camp in Minden 7/22-7/26 by
Fred[_5_]
Following up on our successful wave camp in April, SoaringNV will be
conducting a cross country soaring program July 22-26, 2009. We will
follow a model similar to the wave camp, with morning presentations
followed by afternoon X-C soaring.
This will be essentially a “lead and follow”...

Has anyone found these horizontal stabilizer fittings cracked? Our
A&P thinks we should order and stock the repair kit from LIVIASA
incase we need it or if LAVIASA goes out of business.. We would
rather not have expensive parts on the shelf. We wre several years
away from the 1,000 hour...

Cockpit ventilation by
chris
I was hoping to work on sealing the canopy frame, control connections
etc, as well as adding an air exhaust to increase the ventilation.
If I were to increase the ventilation in the cockpit and try various
options can you think of any easy ways to test and compare how
effective different options...

Rear View Cameras by
Ken Kochanski (KK)
Now that we are moving to large screen nav displays, how hard would it
be to install a rear view camera ... not so much for backing up ...
(I can do that without a camera on any given contest day) ... but for
those pesky pilots that insist on flying in your blind spot ... i.e.
i'm thinking this...

Sparrow Hawk Glider on the cover of Machine Design by
SF
The June 4, 2009 issue of Machine Design has a Sparrow Hawk glider on
the cover. The article does a very good job of covering all three of
Windward Performance's current sailplane projects. The Sparrow Hawk
13m ultralight, the Duck Hawk 15m racing plane and the Perlan
(designed to break the world...

Trailer Suspension by
Tony Condon[_2_]
I'm considering replacing the axle/suspension for the trailer on the
Cherokee. Reskinning the trailer after windstorm damage has devolved into
rebuilding the trailer. I'm sure you all know how that goes.
I've been looking at the Rubber Torsional axles and I'm curious what the
opinion of the...

A "god" of Soaring by
rlovinggood
For SSA members, we can now see one of the "gods" of soaring that we
worship.
http://ssa.org/sport/PhotoGalleryDetail.asp?category=contest&id=352&PhotoId=4636
I don't know if non-SSA members can access this photo. But it is
definitely one worth committing to memory and calling upon during
times...

I have a complete set of white numbers that are free + shipping to anyone

you can from the set. There are two of each (two N's, two 4's, etc).
They are...

US glider import numbers by
Bob C[_2_]
I'm putting together a business plan. Can anyone answer the following:
1. How many glider pilots are there in the US? In the world?
2. How many gliders are registered in the US?
3. How many new gliders came into the country in 2006? 2007? 2008?
4. How many of these were motorgliders?

Winch Launching in US by
john hawkins
I have recently started gliding again after a long absense. I no longer have
funds to support my power plane habit and am soaring as less expensive means
of getting airborne. I am surprised to see that winch tows in the USA are
still almost non existant. Why not. Surely a winch is much cheaper...
