EW Logger by
[email protected]
Hi,
I have a question regarding the ew logger: the place it has it
listed up for sale differentiates between the engine version and a
pure glider version. Mine will be used mostly in the glider, but I'd
like have the ability to use it in a motorized glider as well, for
vacations, training etc....

175 or 250 watt transponder? by
Itsaplane
Needing a replacment, my transponder shop told me that above 15k' the
FAR's require a 250 watt transponder (125w below 15k').
True?
I'm pretty sure that sailplane owners are mostly installing 175 watt
units and flying them to 18k' (and higher in wave windows). Right?
If this 15k' rule is real,...

hydraulic brake actuation by
Brad[_2_]
Am researching the brake system for my glider project and am pretty
sure a disc brake is the way to go. The cost for a suitable drum brake
is about 2x what a disc brake from Grove or Matco costs, Azuza makes
drum brakes, but they don't seem robust enough for my needs.
I plan on using a bike grip...

PDA Recommendations by
Jim White[_4_]
My 3970 that runs Winpilot has died and I need to replace it. I have a 3900
cradle fitted to the cockpit. What can you guys recommend that will run
Winpilot?
I believe the 5500 series IPAQ will fit in the same cradle. Can anyone
confirm this? What about other models?
The IPAQ 214 is more powerful...

Update on Spot by
kd6veb
Hi Gang
I have been using Spot on every flight (about 120 hours total) since
last May and have not had to replace the batteries yet. Today I found
that I had left the unit on for 2 days since my last flight. Since the
aircraft had been in its hanger Spot was unable to get a GPS fix and
had turned...

High altitude flutter - Vne by
bildan
Interesting subject needs new thread.
It strikes me that a glider designed to soar in weak thermals is well
off its design point when running fast in a wave XC or, for that
matter, in strong thermal conditions. Ballast helps, of course, but
the basic airframe aerodynamics are wrong for extreme...

January wave -- Finally! by
[email protected]
January is the big month for mountain wave in Minden, but this January
seems to have been slow to live up to our reputation as the best wave
location ever. We've had 2 or 3 days of wave, but it's been somewhat
tame compared to previous years.
Finally today we got a super lennie over the Carson...

IGC log file tabulator by
Tuno
Mark, I've thought of something along those lines, but the file would
be a more general control file, containing things like the full path
location(s) of the IGC files, output options, local time, flight time
calculation rules, etc. I avoided this because I wanted to keep the
tool's interface as...

Winch Launching by
Rolf
Caesar Creek Soaring Club is investigating the possibility of winch
launching on our field. As expected there are very polarized opinions
on the merits, value, and safety of winch launching. I would
appreciate any rational inputs on the merits of winching or reference
data from other sites on...

Altitude encoder anomaly by
Andy[_1_]
I mentioned in another thread that I had been experiencing incorrect
mode C reports when the airplane was cold. Since a few people offered
suggestions, I'm following up with a report.
Installation: PA28-180, ACK A-30 mod 1 encoder, KT 76A transponder.
Observation: Mode C reports in error in...
