TPAS and Transponder - Blind Spot by
jcarlyle
A few days ago, Bumper mentioned his TPAS "went deaf" in his
transponder equipped glider while flying near other transponders. Jim
S asked about the blanking distance, and Eric Greenwell found in the
manual for the Zaon MRX that this was about 0.4 miles.
But the shape of the dead zone is very...

Collision Avoidance Systems for gliders by
noel56z
After reading of the recent mid-air out West I bought a Zaon MRX PCAS
(Portable Collision Avoidance System) from Aircraft Spruce &
Speciality to try out. I also fly a Piper Vagabond without an
electrical system and this unit doesn't require your aircraft have a
mode C transponder as it's a...

Glider computers - what's important? by
[email protected]
I have a datalogger, I have an IPAQ, and I have all the cabling etc.
I have spent considerable time at Cumulus Soaring, reading the
comparisons of glider software. What I lack is the experience to know
what is important. I've played with the features of SeeYou Mobile,
and frankly, most of the...

OLC site 2007 by

I THINK I successfully uploaded a flight. I got an e-mail back, and
it contains a link that takes me to the information for the flight.
Last fall I went to the OLC site, and I was able to figure out how to
find flights posted by individual pilots. This was on the

K21, aerobatics and spinn weight by
Bernt Hustad Hembre
Hi everyone!
I'm trying to find some information regarding flying
aerobatic with a K21 with the spinn weight attached.
The plot is to use a K-21 to fly the sportsman and
intermediate aerobatic programs issued by IAC. But
both of these programs include spinns.
Is it OK to fly a full aerobatic...

Cumulus Soaring Web Site Moved by
Paul Remde
Hi,
For many years my web site has been available at www.cumulus-soaring.com.
At lease... that link worked. Actually, the site was at
www.soarmn.com/cumulus/ with www.cumulus-soaring.com being forwarded to the
soarmn.com site. Last weekend I moved all my web sites to a new server.
The base...

XM weather - anyone using it? by
Eric Greenwell
Is anyone using XM weather in a glider? If so, what system are you using
to get it, and how is it working out? What features are useful?
Or, is there anyone using it in an airplane, and thinks it would be
great to have in a glider?

Low towing thought by
Martin Gregorie
I did annual checks about a month ago, when we were encouraged to try
low position on the way up for spin checks. I decided that I like low
tow and will use it in future, but before I do so there's one thing I'd
like to ask the Aussies and other habitual low towers: when you release
do you just...

Does anyone have any experience using this combination (with the 302
providing GPS, vario, etc to the LX via serial cable), and if so, how
do you like it? Pros, cons?
I have a friend considering this combination but he doesn't do r.a.s.
He's looking to replace his PDA with the LX to clean up his...

1st day 2007 Seniors USA by
[email protected]
First race day, and yep, we sat on the grid while the snifers went
round and round. You know the drill, pre practice ka boomers,, sky
filled with hard bottoms, then comes first race day. It even felt cool
at noon, and the sun gods were a hour late, earlier, heck, they even
didn't know, as we woke...
