OLC score calculation? by
ttaylor at cc.usu.edu
I was just wondering how the OLC scores are calculated. I was looking
at a case today where a higher performance ship Ventus 2 versus my
Ventus B flew a shorter distance and slower yet gets a slightly higher
score.
Here is the raw data from August 20th on the USA section:
304.96 Hunter...

Husky as a tow plane? by
bumper
Anyone using an Aviat Husky A1-B, 180 hp, as a tow-plane? I just purchased
one w/ tow hook and would be interested in hearing the experience of others.
This Husky also has an 80" Hartzell for improved climb (stock is 76").

Minner Joy by
Larry Pardue
Contest pilots in the US know Charlie Minner but they know him as the
enforcer, the face of authority.
I was with Charlie today at Hobbs and saw another side. For many years
Charlie has been traveling the contest circuit as the authoritarian or the
enforcer. He is the contest manager or the...

A Really Good Wave Cloud Pic by
Kemp
While in NZ last year I was struck by how a tagline for NZ is "The Land
of the Long White Cloud", yet I could not find in any tourist spot or
museum a really good, poster size lenticular image. One lady at the
Auckland museum said, "It's a myth!", whereupon I corrected her with
the explanation of...

Unofficial survey: Is gliding gaining popularity? by
Hendrik Stheeman
Hi,
As part of a distance course I am taking, I need to analyse a "real world"
issue. Rather than taking a work-related topic, I thought I'd think about my
hobby instead.
So, my question to you is: In your opinion, is gliding / soaring gaining in
popularity?
Answers (in either English, German,...

Becker Radio Repair by
Steve Leonard
Ted,
If you want to try wiring in a different mic (and flipping
a switch under the cover of the radio to change to
the other mic style setting), the wiring diagram is
available at:
http://www.wingsandwheels.com/AR4201%20Manual.pdf
Assuming here that it is a 4201 you have. Otherwise,

Krosno parts by

Has anyone a source for a trim spring, part number AB.51.000.07.00 from
the elevator system of a Krosno, KR-03A?
We have had one break, and need a replacement either new or used.
Thanks in advance

Auto Tow Information by
Steve Leonard
I am a bit disappointed to see this thread going the
way the Yahoo Winch design group did. I still watch
there and am interested in what comes of it. It started
off (Or so I thought) with the notion of designing
a simple but reliable winch that a small group of people
could afford to build so a...

Becker radio repair by
Steve Leonard
Might want to wire up for and try a hand mic before
you ship your radio off, Ted. I have heard of several
people (My Dad, for one) that have had boom mics go
bad. Works fine with the hand mic, and worked fine
when a new boom mic was installed.

v2c flight manual by
[email protected]
Is the Ventus 2c manual available in PDF format? I'll be the new owner
of one in about a month and would like to familiarize myself with the
contests. I don't believe the factory has a soft version, perhaps
someone has scanned it?

Auto Tow Information by
Mike Schumann
Does anyone know of a good publication or web site that discusses the
specifics of auto tow launches. In particular, what type of tow vehicles
are appropriate and what release altitudes are possible for various length
runways, etc.....
Thanks,

Schweizer 1-35 and other flapped sailplanes by
Jack
I've seen several remarks lately in Soaring Magazine and on my home
club's internet forum about the characteristics of this particular
sailplane. Though not directly bashing this ship, comments made seem to
imply that it's a difficult or dangerous sailplane to fly. I think
that's wrong. Some of...

How does it fly? Is it difficult to assemble/disassemble? Or any other

Sealing The PIK-20B Canopy by
P. Corbett
CRUMMY!!
This is the best description I can think of to describe the pump-up canopy
seal on my PIK-20B. The concept is good, since like on most side-hinged
canopies, the sealing surfaces are both horizontal and vertical. But in
practice the seal never was great and it leaks so re-pumping is...

OLC Searching by
Jack
Is there a way to search OLC results for flights in a particular type?
Of course, the 1-26 Association Club listing makes it easy for (most)
1-26's, but for the rest it seems to be a matter of searching through the
whole list of flights for a given period to find those by a particular
glider type...
