Cobra Parts by
ventus2
Interested to hear if anyone has experience with replacing axle parts on a
Cobra Trailer.
Particularly the brake drum (its an 88 model) and wheel bearings.
Question, are these parts which can be interchanged from generic axles or
bought off the shelf in the US? The whole of Germany seems to be on...

Singing Wings by
Neil Allison
I noticed this today: http://www.newscientist.com/article.ns?id=dn7867
"In wind tunnel tests, Salmon stuck sections of plastic piezo-electric
film to wing segments. This film vibrates when an electrical signal is
applied, producing sound.
Tests using a barely audible sinusoidal tone of about 400...

Neil Lawson of whiteplanes, died yesterday by
2cernauta2
Dear All,
I hear from my Italian friends at the Junior's WGCs that the famous
soaring photographer Neil Lawson has died yesterday.
He was standing on the roof of his car, to get better pictures of the
finishing gliders. One of those gliders caught him.
The pilot involved is a British team mate,...

My final posting to this group... by
[email protected]
For over ten years the RAS has been amusing, sometimes instructive,
sometimes vexing. But until this week, it has always managed to stay
within my very fliexible bounds of propriety.
At last, though, I'm joining the majority of lurkers and will scrub the
group of authors who tell tales signifying...

World Juniors? by
Frank Whiteley
Anyone have today's (18th) task or an update? www.worldgliding2005.com
DNS is hosed up at the moment. They were trying to get a more robust
server enabled, but looks like the route announcements are troubled for
now.
TIA,

Phoebus B by
AFSax
I am fairly new to soaring. I'm an American airplane pilot who just
got his Glider PPL in Germany, where I'm living. I'll be coming back
to the states next summer and am looking at possibly buying a Phoebus B
to fly for the rest of the time I'm here, as well as bring back to the
states with me. ...

[US] Hope some are watching this by

The last part about the matching funds is troubling. Would seem like
someone forgot to finalize things years ago. M-ASA is having an
interesting run at it.

Long shot perhaps, but is there an empty LAK-12 factory trailer
languishing out there somewhere in the US or Cananda?

Thinking about handicapping contest weather by
Bill Daniels
I've been replaying on-line contest .IGC files with Henryk Birecki's
"GPS_LOG WinCE". (This is a training function to learn Henryk's software)
It's possible to set the software so auto-select the McCready number based
on actual thermal strengths. Other software can do the same thing.
The average...

Source for LS-6 tail skid/wheel by
[email protected]
Hi all,
Does anyone know of a source for a glue on tail skid and wheel for the
LS-6? I ripped mine off this weekend by just catching the tailwheel on
the edge of the apron and ruined it. Maybe some one has one getting
dust in there garage??
Sincerely,
Jerz

Soaring Composite Index by
Papa3
If anyone is aware of a "Soaring Composite Index" which incorporates
all of the weather factors relevant to cross country soaring, please
post details below or contact me directly. So far, I have Jack
Harrison's excellent forecasts for the UK as a model, but I'm looking
for other inputs.

Winter Vario by
[email protected]
When circling at the normal thermalling speeds my Winter vario seems to
reflect the sailplane actual rate of climb however when flying at a
higher constant speed (example 100 knots) the vario does not reflect
the rate of climb. I first noticed this when penetrating into a wave
where the vario was...

Closing of a gliderport by
Jack Harkin
Burt...Thanks for rekindling the memory of Bill Harris.
I spent many hours in an 880 cockpit, on the skeet
and trap fields and in his always open home as a young
bachelor. He was a close friend and a true gentleman.
I miss him as I am sure you do along with many others.

Neil Lawson and Accident Investigation by
David Roberts
I have been upset by some of the exchange of 'views'
on this tragic accident. Many have already pointed
out that until the facts are known, it is dangerous
and irresponsible to speculate as to the cause(s).
I was not at Husbands Bosworth on Tuesday, but as BGA
Chairman I was phoned within a...

'Blind Flying' by Penny by
Dennis Neal
It was heartwarming to read Penny's story.
I spent many years gliding and flew very many disabled
persons, most of whom turned out to be almost human.
I have one vivid memory of flying a partially sighted
man and as was my usual practice I commented on our
height gain at every 250 ft. We reached...
